A sub-panel meeting of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is planning to propose the adjustment of dark-red zone provinces from 29 to 24 provinces and curfew hours from 11:00 PM. to 3:00 AM. at the upcoming general meeting of the CCSA, chaired by the Prime Minister, tomorrow, October 14th.

 

TPN media notes at this time that all of these items are proposals, and not guaranteed or set in stone to happen.

 

According to local media, the sub-panel would initially introduce more consideration of Covid-19 relaxations at the next general meeting, including the reorganization of colored zones nationwide such as the highest and strict control area, or dark-red zone provinces, from 29 to 24 provinces, the highest controlled area, or the red zone area, to 29 provinces, and the controlled area, or orange zones, to 24 provinces. 

 

Chonburi, home of TPN media, is currently a “dark-red” zone, although based on high levels of Covid-19 and cases it is unlikely that the color code is changed locally.

 

Moreover, the sub-panel will propose the change of curfew hours from the current 10:00 PM. – 04:00 AM. to 11:00 PM. – 03:00 AM. of the following day, implementing from 16 – 31 October 2021, for dark red provinces.

They don’t want to lift the curfew because the government wants to use the emergency laws to crackdown the students and protesters.

Meanwhile, tourism is starting, continuing and growing in the rest of the world whilst Thailand continues to potter around with curfew hour changes, alcohol bans and taking 2 steps forwards and 1 back on entry demands 

If you're going to reduce the curfew by two hours, why not make it 00:00 - 04:00 rather than one hour either side of the current 22:00 - 04:00?

 

That way at least tourists can have a bit more freedom instead of being confined to their beds by 10 like school kids and businesses such as restaurants, 7-11s and night markets can gain an extra 2 hours of income! Who the hell cares if you're allowed to go out at 3 am rather than 4 am? Heck, not even roosters are up that early!

 

What a stupifyingly witless idea to add to the ever-growing conveyor-belt of stupid decisions made by these imbecile bureaucrats.

I have now read the full story and I am still underwhelmed...

I fail to see what difference 22.00 04.00 to 23.00 03.00 makes. If it is to control late  night drinking it does nothing, tell drinking establishments that if they get caught selling beer after 22.00 they will be closed down forever and the owner of the premises will do 6 months and banned from holding a liquor license for ever.

People want to socialize and are being driven underground to be able to do it so the governments dream of control goes out the window.

Bin the curfew, open up, and get the police and army out there then you have people spending money and control, win win.

Selling beer after 22.00??? They're not allowed to sell beer at any time!

They are and it is easy to find a beer after 10 and it will be easy to find a beer after 11, that was my meaning 10 or 11 it makes no difference.

No. Establishments, outside of Phuket, aren't allowed to sell alcohol at any time.

 

Whether they observe these rules or not is another matter.

I and many others know the rules, but people also must not gamble, watch porn etc etc, i am only telling of my observations that coffee sales in eating places served in large containers is a booming business.

There some places that sell alcohol openly, even places that have been raided before. The rumor is that they either pay in brown envelopes, or are owned by law enforcement. 

 

Which begs the question: if the national authorities know their restrictions can be circumvented by local police, why do they even bother? What's the point?

Do you see the curfew as purely a way to curb alcohol drinking? I don't.... I like to think it reduces the potential for crime at night... thieves out and about. Pretty easy policing if near everyone out there at 2am is breaking the law. A pity the police take the same hours off too, unless onto a sure fire money-making raid.

30k fine for drinkers and loss of license for owners. If you can see illegal drinkers then so can the brown shirts. In Pattaya the brownshirts are very busy and raids are a weekly event in Naklua, Darkside, Pratumnak, LKM etc..Foreign owners were prosecuted for having a coffee in their place last month. Immigration officers have been stalking foreign businesses looking for minor transgressions...
