BANGKOK (NNT) - Some sellers have been reopening their shops in the tourist hotspot of Chatuchak Market, although their sales have yet to recover as they depend primarily on foreign customers.

Many sellers at Chatuchak Market in Bangkok remain concerned over the spread of COVID-19, but expressed their belief that Thailand’s reopening on November 1 will be a boon to commerce. They expressed the view that the COVID-19 problem will have to be addressed in accordance with the parameters at a given time. The sellers said they were in favor of stringent checks at the country of origin of each tourist, which they believe will help lower the risk of Thailand needing to go into lockdown again.

At Khao San Road in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district, shop owners were seen making repairs and other preparations as they await the arrival of tourists next month. The atmosphere remained subdued and many shops were still closed. Most of the shops that were open were food stalls that have stayed in business during the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic period. These sellers said they had the readiness to accommodate Thai and foreign tourists, and they were taking precautions to protect themselves from COVID-19.

My favorite part of Chatuchak is the paella place. Great cocktails. Getting properly tipsy while listening to their live DJ, before staggering about to take in the scenery, makes the experience much more enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure these stall holders have absolutely no grip on reality if they think this. Give it a month and they will be complaining that the expected 'boom' in foreign tourism has had no impact on their income and they are considering closing again

Hope they have stampede barriers in place for their shops.

The lack of planning for November 1 is going to result in a reduction of new visitors during the first week of November.

Thailand is going to have to bring in travel agents or other special group if planes are going to have passengers the first week.

Remember Khao San Rd had a stall selling Fake IDs, DLs, Degree Certs, etc. RIGHT Across from the Cop Shop…. Hilarious ! TIT alright I thought ……..

There are going to be a lot of disappointed/angry vendors when the ridiculous numbers of predicted tourists fail to materialize.

The government will have nowhere to hide. I'm sure they will find somebody to blame but the people won't be ready to listen any more.

I predict things will turn very nasty by new year.

Finally, instant TEFL and UCLA degrees within arm's reach again.

Comforting to know those exotic rodents and tamed prairie dogs at Chatuchak will finally find their forever homes soon.
