Seriously a nation of p.

My wife who's a fairly educated woman always gives me <deleted> about not spraying my hands with alcohol even after I just touch my head. Out of elevator. I get shower spray. Close the car door. Shower spray. Touch the chopsticks. Shower spray. Mask on restaurant  table. No it has to be on tissue ....and afterwards a shower spray. If I don't spray my hands even after some trivial action I get a lecture about endangering her life.

So today we are at Central and as you know they have these food sellers near Tops. She orders 4 bottles of freshly squeezed  juice (it wasn't cheap too). Naturally the vendor uses gloves to touch the fruit and at the same time handles the money without removing and changing the gloves. Most likely the whole f day she's been doing this. I went ape$hit when this happened before, but today I totally lost it. I was really disappointed she didn't say anything. The total hypocrisy regarding my behavior and "theirs". It's like nothing happened.

So in the car I told her what I think of her. At the end of our journey she got up and threw the juice in the garbage without even looking at me. I know Thailand and I know I shouldn't have said anything, but to be honest I'm getting more bitter every day here. I just can't stand the country anymore.

Rant over.

geez, you sound like a lot of fun to be with... and you have been pretty bitter since your first posts...

.

I lived in Mexico for a few years. Even the hot dog cart had two guys working; one taking money and making change, no gloves, the other with gloves only handling food. Taco carts the same.

I understand your frustration with stupidity (the vendor). I just shake my head in amazement. See them take off their masks to eat and set them, face side face down on the table, touch all kinds of condiments, pick up mask, put it back on after eating.

No sense whatsoever.

Chill out.

I rarely get a bit of food poisoning and it's usually something dicey like raw crab. 30 years only India gives me problems and it's usually what you don't see.

I consider myself a clean, sanitary person - I find most people that sell food are relatively clean. Clean enough.

As for COVID I'm fairly convinced at this point. It's not very transmissible by surface. Personally, I don't think that is anything to even be concerned about in that regard. Of course, if something's got covid all over it and you go rub your eyes yeah that's going to be a problem.

The issue really is being in really close quarters with people in spaces with low circulation of air.

I'm not really all that concerned anymore about catching covid what I am concerned about is getting shipped off the hospital jail especially for being asymptomatic and testing positive.

For what it's worth my ridiculous wife also wears her mask outside and kind of everywhere. She has three spray bottles of alcohol and while does not go to that extent of spraying everything in our home she does have three spray bottles.

Let your wife be for a while and go back and apologize.

The Philippines are filthy and covid is out of control there anyone thinking that they're going to leave Thailand and find some Nirvana is sorely mistaken

I find nothing even remotely 'ridiculous' about this?? There is a pandemic on you know? ☹️

I disagree. I find the entire drama absurd. 85% theatre.

The forever pandemic.

I got a food poisoning quite a few times here. I'm more concerned about it than covid. Once it got so bad I fainted and cracked my head. Definitely an issue for me here.

Findings of these studies suggest that the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection via the fomite transmission route is low, and generally less than 1 in 10,000, which means that each contact with a contaminated surface has less than a 1 in 10,000 chance of causing an infection.

Well then be a bit more particular about where you eat. But I will tell you something about that if you're that concerned about food poisoning than stay away from meat products. Fruit and vegetables really shouldn't make you ill even if the environment is a bit unsanitary.

It is still a very stressful time many people with depression and on the edge, easy to get frustrated.

Maybe take a day or 2 trip possibly even alone to get away and try to clear your head.

And, getting off TVF and not looking at the news for a couple of days may be useful.

  • Popular Post

Seems like overkill on both sides. Must be that time of the month.

Your right but should have kept it to yourself.

Anyway, you obviously know this.

This makes you a good person.

Tomorrow ask her, "teelok, where's the juice"? To make her feel guilty.

Help

The OCDisordered "disinfecting" of surfaces and objects is basically there to make people think they can meaningfully and proactively target the COVID, but:

"In a study in which the authors tried to mimic actual conditions in which a surface might be contaminated by a patient, no viable SARS-CoV was detected on surfaces"

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30561-2/fulltext

It's a a "feelgood" thing:

"When the New York MTA surveyed passengers in late September and early October, three-quarters said that cleaning and disinfecting made them feel safe when using transport"

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00251-4#ref-CR2

As the "Nature" article states, virus on fomites (inanimate virus carriers) are very bad at transmitting viable viral material:

"Half of the samples from two hospitals and more than one-third of samples from the quarantine hotel were positive for viral RNA. But none of the viral material was actually able to infect cells, the researchers reported"

No doubt your wife will understand when you explain it to her.

Good luck with that.

You are lucky to have a sensible wife who understands the importance of your personal hygiene and covid spread. The actions of the vendor are not your business but as you observed her poor hygiene practice makes your hand spraying all the more important. It is not a 'them' and  'us' situation. The vendor was unhygienic and illogical but doing her best. I hope you didn't hurt her feelings. She's poor, hot  overworked, probably in debt and consumed with worry. Some people might consider your behavior shameful.

Totally agree, works for me . If I had an understanding 'wife' I would also add in taking a 19  year old uni student on the trip to help alleviate the symptoms.

Excuses.

I grew up in poor country. No one there touched money and produce at the same time. In fact, I have never seen such behavior anywhere else, only in Thailand. They don't even try to hide it.

Hand washing is one of the most effective ways of preventing covid and other such illnesses. I think hand washing  not surface washing was the subjects of the OP's submission. Wash hands every 20 minutes.

You lost it much earlier… That is when you came in your little boat to the shores of the strangers’ land and then married a woman from the local tribe. You probably thought back then that she is your woman, one made in heaven to be your other half. But in fact, she is still the tribes’s daughter, more than anything else.

Absolutely not true. There are all sorts of nasties that can be carried by fruit and veg.  On one occasion some years back Thai health authorities expressed concern about the spread of e coli  by street fruit vendors. See also health line.com/nutrition/foods-that-cause-food-poisoning which lists e coli, salmonella and listeria poisoning as hazards associated with fruit and veg.
