Thai Rath reported the latest comments from Thailand's public health minister and deputy prime minister Anutin Charvirakul yesterday.

The controversial figure admitted that there would be some Omicron cases that would "sneak in" among the 200,000 foreign tourists on the Test and Go program.

But he reiterated that procedures were in place to handle that eventuality and that Thailand could cope.

He said that Omicron was no worse than other variants.

And he urged the Thai public who are eligible to continue to get their boosters to protect themselves.

So they have opened the country and invited the tourists to bring a new strain in the country??

With the mass foreign tourists double vaxed and overtested it is almost impossible, but nobody knows who could bring it to Thailand.. Same as there is a now a prediction of 20k-30k a day after the New Year Celebrations...As foreigner I stay away from that, because they blame me ...( no worry I never go to mass groups of people)

"no worse"

There are several medical parameters used to measure the vitrolity of a virus, ie., speed of infection and degree of severity.

From recent medical reports from Europe and Africa, Omicron is no more sever than Delta. So yes, no worse.

But because Omicron targets the upper respiratory system, it IS more infectious than Delta. Case in point has been cases in Europe where even triple and double vaccinated people have contracted Omicron. Such infection in those cases resulted in mild, quickly treatable infections. But what does that say for those unvaccinated for covid 19?
