Tourism Ministry Launches ‘Thailand Trusted Destination’ Campaign

A squid would be more appropriate logo, as in 'Come to Thailand to play our 'Squid Game' upon arrival.'

My 70 year old expat friend from the UK arrived to isolate at his Pattaya hotel on Dec 24 after being in the plane and van with many others.

Upon arrival, his PCR test was performed in the dirty parking lot with swabs left in the open on a table by a guy that didn't change his gloves between tests, and Buddha only knows how many people he tested before him or where and how the swabs were stored.

His results were not 'positive' or 'negative', but simply an ambiguous remark of a trace 'detected'.  That would be normal with what is going on in the air all over and around Pattaya.

He was awoken and forcefully taken out of his room by ambulance to be held iinHospita ln Pattaya where they did a barrage of more tests, x rays, blood, urine, all but having another confirming PCR test. He had no symptoms, and was tested in England several times prior.

He had demanded another PCR test which they refused to do. They would not let him see or talk to a doctor.  He went on a hunger strike in the hospital for 5 more days in order to get a PCR test to prove he was negative.

They finally relented, and did a PCR test which proved him to be 'negative'.  Even now, they still refuse to let him out and intend to hold him for a full 11 days even after proof of this clearly unsanitary performed and contaminated and inconclusive test result. He is being held against his will, and the doors to his balcony have been hastily made and bolted in a way to only partially open to prevent his escape or being driven to suicide by jumping from the 5th floor.

Meanwhile his hotel he booked is still charging him, and his Bangkok Hospital kidnapping bills are being needlessly run up with more unnecessary tests, and are growing. His top notch insurance is not likely to pay for the forced incarceration, as he does not have Covid, nor is he being treated for it.

He says there are at least 30 others with him there that are healthy, but held there in the same situation as he is in. The 'Test and Go to Covid Jail' program.

Do not be fooled for a minute to think that Thailand is freely open for travel or tourism with this current system of random 'Hospital Incarceration Upon Arrival at Your Expense' game being played.

Only come to Thailand when they learn to treat travellers better than they do in Afghanistan.

But perhaps some actually want to come play 'Thai Squid Game'.

Trust us. If you are a foreigner, we will charge you 10x what a local pays, for any national park, museum or many other attractions. Trust us. We are consistent.

The Ministry had to take Business leaders to Krabi to show them venues?  Guess they're too stupid to learn simply from issued guidelines or policy.  Monkey see?  Really, it's a vacation field trip fully paid by Gov't for a bunch of Elites.

Good to see the Tourism ministry starting off the new year with a new batch of ideas. Keep up the good work!

And, wow, there are clean toilets at Krabi Airport ... good to know.

You know, what an absolutely idiotic thing to put in a news story.  Clean toilets.  I mean, they sprayed them with disinfectant.  Wow!  Incredible Thailand!  Certified safe!  (tm).

It is such a third world country and why are the leaders so stupid so as not to see it?  IT's really stunning isn't it?

I sometimes feel a grudging respect for the ministries who come up with these statements ,it cant be easy to come up with such absolute stupidity on a regular basis .

A bit hard sell when the media keep writing about families spit up on arrival and forced to quarantine hotels...

What would that leave from a 10-14 days beach vacation?

Does it worth the risk?

With uncertainty, and fortnightly changing rules in Thailand ( or even the home country), and randomly cancelled flights, it is just hard to trust anything and anyone this time.

Why give a high ball with a slogan, when unlikely to be able to deliver on it from the get-go?

Isn't it more the issue that Thailand doesn't trust tourists?

Are you aware how expensive "dancing elephants" are now on days? Of course someone need to pay...:whistling:

I'm not sure that foreigners will like a "dancing elephant" as logo, many are told to avoid that kind of attractions where animals are used to entertain tourists, including riding on an elephant...????

(For the matter of good order, the image here is not the logo, it's just an elephant dancing...????)

So, no animal abuse was involved in the creation of your post? Thank you for that. I guess they will not have to call in the PC police.

Can tat listen to social media and correct practices that discourage foreign travel as a long term plan, maybe to many enjoy.

I love it because its endemic, the padding bins etc wish i was there now

Wow, "Amazing Thailand" indeed!

What a horror story!

Thanks for the report - and the point is well made re not changing gloves between tests, etc.

Quite a horror story...... he should contact the Embassy. (They are probably all on Christmas break).

With everything foreign tourist-related having been shuttered for almost two years now, "Thailand Rusted Destination" would be more appropriate, lol.

Right...because caricaturing abused and beasts-of-burden elephants is intended to be a good strategy??? :1zgarz5:

Fairness? Tell tourists police to stop harrrsing tourist. Following Farangs until they put the bio degradable cigarettes in the street.  Since there are no trash can anywhere.

My family and I were travelling with some friends recently (I was the only foreigner).

We travelled out to a National Park... I didn’t think anything of it until we returned.

I assumed we’d simply not been charged the entry free.

I later found out that the the Thai’s with whom I’d been travelling were so embarrassed at the ‘double charging’ they’d paid my 5x National Park fee didn’t tell me.

Ironically, the last time I visited a national park I’d paid the ‘Thai Price’ with my Pink ID card.

------

As others have written - Thailand does not do what is says on the tin....

i.e. it makes promises of trust - but state sponsored dual charging indicates very very differently.

The recent case of the Hua Hin expat who was double charged for his cancer treatment indicates very very differently.

Thailand - You have a LOT of work to do if you are ever to accurately use the word ’Trust’.

Oh come on. As pointed out elsewhere in the thread, Krabi airport has a decent crapper so what more do you want?????

When will TAT learn, its not all about a new names & slogans.

Its about cleanliness, safety, fairness, which they have included in the campaign. Its time to Act and NOT just talk.

'Trust' has to be earned from deeds, not from announcements.

When policies are amended so often without any notice, when promises are not met, slogans become meaningless.

How long term Expats are being treated in Thailand has to have an impact on decisions being made by tourists despite them having different periods of stay.

I already trust Thailand!  Ironically, if anything it's the government which is least viewed as trustworthy to my experience.

Agree with all, except what's above.   Why would a tourist care how expats are treated, or the reverse, unless expat manages a business catering to.

Who bases their holiday decisions of that.  Nobody would ever travel, if people considered how any one segment of a population in any country was treated.

Visitors can now look for venues and attractions bearing the campaign’s dancing elephant logo. The logo certifies attractions that meet the standards promoted by the ministry.

I can pee against the wind further than I'd trust any Thai standard connected to tourism.

Especially a dancing Elephant sticker.

The campaign was introduced as an incentive for business owners to improve their services and boost confidence among tourists. Participating venues will be granted the dancing elephant logo, which represents cleanliness, safety, fairness, good management, and green practices.

If they could achieve all the above they wouldn't need a sticker to prove it... punters would be lined up at the door because of word-of-mouth.
