Well, people taking off their mask to sneeze...

I kid ye not, that has just happened whilst I was in Big C. A upper middle aged Thai lady pulled her mask up to sneeze twice. Didn't bother putting her arm across her face or sneezing into cupped hands. Just pulled up the mask and blurted it out everywhere, then gently put the mask back ensuring it was all nice and tight. Sometimes I lose faith in the brain that some people carry around

  • Really not worth the effort. I'd rather get a take away and go back home, than risk a (possibly false) positive test and have to face the consequences.

  • Ditto.  I was told about this by the boss at my bar last night.  I told her straight that she would not be seeing me until the lunacy has returned to it's normal level.

  • The hidden pandemic that's being left to individual Provincial Governors to sort rather than CCSA who are keeping their heads down. This is not going to end well.

I am just devastated. After all the stress to get a Thai Pass after they suddenly cancelled it, and now an ATK result required every 72 hours just to go eat. Do they think this is normal life for a country of 70 million with only 3000 cases per day?

The state of Queensland Australia currently has over 3000 cases per day from a population of only 5 million and everything is open and no-one is dying...life is normal

Another brain dead idea to kill what has already been killed by a leader that is also brain dead!

Talks of booster, which is the most important  factor, has only been that, talks.

I've had my booster here several weeks ago and I know plenty of others (thai and farang) who have had theirs already

You really think you are getting accurate numbers.  Didn't you learn anything  from history  about the power of the media?  I can tell you the numbers have always been slanted.  Many are taking the test at home, testing positive,  and not reporting  to hospital  or anywhere.

I don’t doubt the announced figures are way below the actual number of cases. My point was that the declared number is the one the governor has to be seen to act on and will be judged on by those higher up the bureaucratic tree. As with many things in the Land of Masks, appearances are everything.

I am so angry right now! I have just canceled my 1 night Test & Go which I can't get back as Thai Pass suspended. Thailand changing rules daily should be told to everyone in the World so that no- one comes. I've never hated a country as much as I do now.

That mask is to protect them from you, nothing more, they don't care.

I came across something interesting on Twitter, someone in the US posted it, can't recall which state it was but he went to a sports stadium, mentioned there were 3 different lines to get in, one for the fully vaxxed who didn't require testing, one for people who already have a recent negative test and another line for on the spot testing.

The guy being double vaxxed wasn't concerned but wanted a test just to be sure so he had a test, tested positive then proceeded to go to the double vaxxed line because being vaccinated he was allowed in, no problem.

Makes sense right...because they only care about themselves....almost everyone, everywhere.

3rd time I've cancelled my Pattaya home coming. Won't be doing a 4th

Anyone want a cheap Condo?

Until everyone gets two shots and a booster, it won't get better with people arriving from overseas with the virus.

It will be a case of eat in your own room or be like Thais who like to turn up at jomtienbeach with a pick up of half a kitchen. on the beach or footpath and consume food for several hours .. don't think I,ll do the latter..food consumed and a lot of air  exhaled

Lol, people arriving from overseas on test & go have a 0.12% positive rate....that's 1 person in a 1000 and even then could be false positive

The final nail has just been driven in.

No, it hasn't!  You really think people are going to take the test?  You really think they can enforce this?  They dont have the force to make sure the bars are legally  opened, and you think this will get enforced?

So its 150 thb per person  before you enter a place to eat.  A family of 4 is 600thb just to walk in order food

It's obvious whoever is the boss of the Provincial Chon Buri governor complained to him about the rising Covid cases. Thinking only of covering his azz the provincial governor determined if he ordered everyone to get tested everywhere he'd have both cheeks covered, could avoid getting scolded again and could fall back on plan B when cases inevitably rise anyway that it wasn't his fault -- it was the restaurant owners to blame who didn't follow his draconian proclamation.

This is what happens when you try to control the uncontrollable with magical thinking. Furthermore all these bone headed ideas are slowly and surely killing the economy and the reasons people come to Thailand in the first place.

In all successful betting you play the odds, accepting a reasonable risk for a greater reward, and that is what nations are doing as they try to balance GDP growth and their citizens health, playing the odds. But Thailand is not willing to take any risk They only want the reward, so called high spending towards who are most certainly not going to get a Covid test just to get a beer and a hamburger, it's a ridiculous invasion of privacy and not what any tourist is going to pay to experience. You thought you were getting a 50 THB plate of fries but ended up with a 2 week hospital jail sentence and a 300,000 THB hospital bill to recover from your asymptomatic case of Covid. (Which you can catch multiple times)

They should be relaxing the rules particularly since Covid is getting weaker. That is what the Prime Minister in a rare moment of clarity proposed. "Living with Covid" That made sense since no matter what you do people are going to catch Covid, unfortunately some will die but the only guarantee for Thailand is loss of wealth and eventually prominence in Southeast Asia and the ultimate source of this flip-floppery is probably Mr. Living with Covid himself.

Doesn't matter. I've already canceled a 6 month trip based on this news, I'm sure others will do the same.

Food courts in supermarkets

It looks like New York's Mayor, Bill de Blasio who finished his term in that city at midnight January 1st has taken on an advisory role for the leadership in Chonburi.

God bless us!

Good summary of Thailand and those in control who are accountable to very few and certainly not the people

2. All customers, regardless of the size of the venue and regardless of the customer’s vaccination or recovery status, must take a Covid-19 antigen test within 72 hours of the current time period to dine-in. The venue can arrange for on-site testing or accept qualified test results.

That's an insane requirement. It's even more insane to impose it right after the New Year weekend, after the horse has bolted as it were. Mind-boggling.

Act in haste, repent at leisure..

You have been posting for weeks about returning and now you cancel? When you had about the best deal possible..1 night in quarantine...

And you are sure you are better off in Australia, where it's far from non-existent..

I don't  think so.  It's a Sausage  fest now with the odds being 20 men to each lady in Pattaya.  So, the lady, and this is what's  happening,  gets it from one man, she passes it on to the others.  Then she interacts with villagers, who havent been vaccinated,  and it just goes.  The hard core monger and alcoholic,   threw saftey out the window for their own pleasure.  The locals just needed the money.  Even without covid things less dangerous  get passed around all the time, and a Thais attitude  is, "I need money!"  "What can I do?"  "If I die, I die!"  Surely  others know this.

All staff, including musicians, performers, entertainers, etc must take a rapid antigen Covid19 test daily.

What is it about restaurants and particularly those that serve alcohol that drives the politicians to draw particular aim at them.

I dine out two to three times per week.  Typically it is in an open air restaurant and the tables are separated.  By contrast, I go into Makro, Tesco Lotus, ThaiWatsadu and I am in an enclosed building with hundreds of people.  I stand in a check out line where people are queued together closely.

But somehow only the servers, cooks, entertainers etc are subject to having to get tested daily.  Heck, the typical cashier at Maakro comes into closer contact with far more people daily than a server does at a restaurant and certainly more than the cook or entertainer.

Oops, I just realised I can still come to Thailand and just blacklist Pattaya for their draconian rules...

Test kits are only about 60B (on shopee) and the tests are good for 3 days. That equates to 20b a day. Hopefully that's not going to crimp your budget. 60B is about the price of a small beer on beach road at happy hour.

They had free testing at treetown yesterday, but if you test positive, they grab you and away you go to ??? Best to test yourself and isolate if positive, if you have been vaccinated.

I'm just broken. 3rd time I was coming only for rules to change at last moment. As for Australia, we are fully open, never required a covid test in 2 years. To do a test every 3 days just to go out for a meal is ridiculous and a deal breaker

I just got back from Phuket. It is almost as if Covid doesn't exist there. No ATK Covid tests I saw. No temperature checks and masks off in most venues. I'm not here to judge if this is good of bad, only saying if you want to remove yourself from invasive and possibly expensive Covid preventive measures Phuket may be a better choice.
