With over 2,000 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus detected in Thailand to date according to the Ministry of Public Health, the country is entering a widespread wave of COVID-19 infections in the next two years, following the long New Year holidays, which will see daily infections spiking into the tens of thousands of cases in the near future, predicted Dr. Manoon Leechawengwongs, a doctor specializing in respiratory and pulmonary diseases at Vichaiyut hospital.

In his Facebook post today, he said, however, that there is no cause for alarm.

He noted that, despite its rapid and easy transmissibility, the Omicron variant has mutated and evolved to the extent that it is causing mild flu-like symptoms, instead of aggressively attacking the upper and lower sections of the respiratory, just like the numerous other coronavirus strains with which the world has been familiar for the past 50 years, such as human coronavirus-229E, NL63, OC43 and HKU1.

No feces Sherlock.  A new wave starting...that's just laughable.

He does say there is similarity to all the past viruses the world has seen and still sees yearly.

No sheet sunshine, it's called cross immunity where the T and B cells recognise it and go all out on the attack, just like the governments do with their citizens over getting a cold/flu, of late that is, boosters everybody ????

Now where have I heard that before?

Forget about cases of Omicron running into tens of thousands in Thailand expect to see numbers in the hundreds of thousands. If the gurus are right the higher the number and the quicker the spread the better, should help to see things turn back to normal. The Thai Govt like other govts all over the world will not be able to handle the testing, isolation, treatment etc. It will be up to the population to look after themselves and loved ones.

2000??

It's much much more than that already.

I know plently people who already have it who know people who know people who know people.....2000 - lol, they wish!

"In his Facebook post today, he said, however, that there is no cause for alarm."

Not sure how he meant that. The sheer numbers that Omicron is likely to bring with it are overwhelming the healthcare system & even affecting the continuation of necessary services as too many fall ill, as seen in other countries.

This tsunami, should it hit Thailand equally hard, pushes the advantage of "it's mild, mostly" straight to the "doesn't matter anymore" bin.

Forget about Omicron, France has a new virus, coming from ... Africa, Kameroen.

You can google it, im not making it up. Was on news internet (MSN) this morning, but already many sites come up with it

Not yet another Greek letter, but it is there.

Good thing from WHO, forget about other countries to vaccinate and you ll get new ones on your plate.

That is proven now ever since pandemic started.

We are running around in circles with no proper actions.  Pfizer and Modena are laughing their ass of.

We used to call this one, the seasonal flu.  Now it's got a fancy name.  Chicken soup, and hydrate.

A lot of children are getting really sick from Omicron variant of COVID 19.  That is troubling.

I suspect the real number is already tens of thousands.  Most people won't even know they have it.
