Brit 'tourist' murdered by scythe in Kanchanaburi - friend in hospital - loud music blamed

Muang Kanchanaburi police and rescue services were called after two British tourists were attacked by a local resident wielding a scythe. 

 

Face down and dead at the scene with multiple wounds and dressed only in shorts was 49 year old Marcus John (as reported by Naew Na).

 

He was lying in a pool of blood and had almost been decapitated.

Grievously wounded next to him was a man named as Shrun Kevin, 55, also British. He was rushed to hospital.

 

 A bloody scythe was recovered.

 

The incident happened outside some rented rooms on Soi Sri Lanka in the Muang district police jurisdiction. 

 

Many beer bottles were in place on a marble table. 

 

The Thai media reported that a group of tourists had been drinking since 9 pm annoying the residents with loud noise from music.

Some time after 3 am this morning (police responded at 3.50 am) one man could take the disturbance no longer and attacked the two tourists then fled the scene. He was believed to be a local resident.

 

Some while later Muang Kanchanaburi police chief Pol Col Somkiat Chomchai announced that a local resident called Tom, 22, was helping police with their inquiries.

Naew Na said the suspect had mental health issues.

Well, RIP, but loud music at night lead me to pay my regular subsidy to local police, fortunately it works. Otherwise it could have ended up with bloodshed as well. 

 

Some people just don't give a booboom about other people's well being, so this poor sod has been asking for it.

Looking at the photos, it appears to be those cheap low budget one room shoebox type places, not exactly known for having educated fine upstanding residents.

I can easily picture this. Voices raised. Offence given. Thai guy goes away, comes back with scythe. Hacks at neck from behind with no warning.

My advice: don't be an <deleted> in the first place, avoid altercation, but if an argument is picked by someone else, get out of the way as soon as you can because they will come back with a gun or knife, and if you do get into a fight, don't go to the floor whatever you do or they'll stamp on your head.

You have to be careful ,even sounding your horn at another driver ,when

he's cut in front of you , can lead to injury or death, does not take much to

set them off , and many carry all kinds of weapons in their vehicles .but it

seems to have gotten worse in last few years.

Sometimes they ask you to get in the floor and say sorry (grap กราบ). You're totally right. This is purely to kick you in the head. Happened to me once. Second time I told them to f off.

So very sad indeed and yes RIP and normally it would be the other way around and accepted that loud music would be played at a wedding or special occasions and that would be no problem and a get together of a few friends.
There are also very many other instances of very annoying noises at all hours of the night  by bike riders but also and not just from the Soi dogs but so-called pets which are not properly trained and allowed to bark and bark  for a very long time and disturb a lot of peoples sleep and people do get very upset and most sleep at night and not during the day as these dangerous dogs do.
I do hear of people rattling their metal doors and also understandably occasionally  some swearing and yes even from the most mild mannered.
Sometimes, I really believe that they care more about any animal before any human beings and yes including their own family but yes of course the proper pet lovers look after their dogs and family too.
So cheap the price of  life but same as when one is owed a substantial amount of money and then you hear it was given as a gift but they drive top of the range cars and own loads of land.

Thais don't often complain about other people making noise , I wonder whether the noise making was being done by felangs which caused the attack ?

   Would he have attacked Thais if they were the ones making a noise ?

This story has been repeated numerous times in Thailand, it usually ends up with gun-shots.

The guys drinking were certainly inconsiderate of those around them, but no one deserved to die or to be on the wrong end of a grievous attack.

So just to be clear on your stance.......

Whilst its extremely out of order to be playing loud music at 3am that rightfully involves the culprit having his head chopped off

I’m not so sure that the ‘victims were attacked just because they are farangs'

 

..... I think its  be related to some ay-holes making a lot of noise and someone else had enough and snapped.... 

 

This is not an uncommon occurrence in Thailand.... someone has a party and makes lots of noise, neighbour has enough rocks up and attacks !... 

 

Such stories are frequently in the Thai news.
