Young and pretty ones never seem to be inside for the full sentence do they? Maybe should could pretend to go crazy like Corby in Bali, that worked for her.

    If you do the crime, expect to do the time....

  • Why wouldn't she sign for a package for her boyfriend? Would you not sign for your partners package? I sign for my families parcels even if they are in the house but I am confident that they are

had signed for a package on behalf of her boyfriend

I'm sure she was aware of the package content ......

obviously she was never taught that drugs are a no no  and to stay away from drugs  .......

Drug addicts, users, sellers, pushers deserve jail .... no sympathy here.

She looks a good sort, too bad she's an idiot.

She should've dumped the bf and advertised herself on Thaifriendly, Tinder etc.

Lots of money to be made, going by the conversations I've had with the young ladies I've supported over the many years.

I'm seeing more and more female foreigners on these sites making a living.

Prostitution is illegal is Thailand.

What happened to the boyfriend who the delivered package was meant for?

African fellas staying in Thailand mostly pimps/drug dealers.  Walk along Sukhumvit Rd, see how many offer drugs/girls/both.  Often police just 10-20m away.

From a previous article in the same paper

"It is there that she is said to have met 35- year-old American teacher, Tris Nepps, who soon became her boyfriend."

Doesn't appear to be an 'African fella' ...

Considering the crimes alot of Thai appear to walk away from - murder, rape, vicious assaults, etc - after a couple years, the sentence seems a little extreme to me. Either that or other crimes need upgrading

3rd world judicial system in a predominantly 3rd world country

It is indeed a sad story. But why come to a Thirld world country to teach English and don't leave when she lost her job. Without knowing the whole story I cant judge anything. My college ex GF was an EL teacher. Now she retired and live in West Virginia. I met her accidentally after 30 years. She told me she travelled throughout the World to teach English. When I asked her if she had ever travelled To Thailand for teaching English. She said no and told me only desperate men travel to Thailand for scoring with girls. I asked her how did she know if she had never travelled to Thailand? She said it is well known in the teaching circle. Of course she had visited Thailand as a tourist when she was teaching in S. Korea.

If she "did the crime".

Does signing for a package on behalf of her boyfriend constitute a crime, if she was unaware of its contents?

If so, are the delivery driver and the courier company accomplices?

"only desperate men travel to Thailand for scoring with girls. "

That is a whopping gurt big blanket judgement on any western man living in Thailand!

When an appeal is submitted, no additional evidence will be accepted. The Appeals Court will base its judgment on the evidence submitted during the trial. Since the defendant’s lawyer will not be formally notified, they will not be aware of the Appeal Court’s decision until it has been announced,“ they said. Really ????

Well ..... Its obviously a trope and an untrue trope at that BUT there do seem to be a very high number of posters on this forum and in certain towns who meet that criteria.

And it cannot be denied that the trope has a following, whenever I am in the UK having beer and it comes up that I live (soon to be lived) in Thailand I get the "nudge nudge wink wink" look.

She signed for a package addressed to the restaurant where she was working. Reading the article it seems she was guilty of being naïve, and maybe too trusting.

Having lived on Samui for a couple of years, I know many of the locals. Many say that she was 100% involved in the trafficking and that she knew & participated in what was going on. I have no proof, but there are always 2 sides to a story.
They say that the police were following the couple for a while, which makes sense. If they hadn't been keeping track of their activities, how would they know about, and suspected this one delivery?
That being said, even if it is true, I think the punishment is excessive. She was only 21. I hope the family can get her out at some point.

Soi

what a stupid comment….this whole tough on drugs propaganda needs to be overhauled and decided on individual case by case….

she was nothing but an unknowing mule and have an appropriate fine/sentence….you can’t equate all drugs crimes the same….they are not

why not tough sentences on others in this county….parents who don’t watch their kids from drowning? Drivers who don’t follow rules of the road and kill others drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists etc

The legal system here should add the word hypocrite as an adjective

now back to Soi….you spout a propaganda expression w/o thinking if it makes any sense, unjust or appropriate? What about commenting w/o any thought?

Would you sign for a package not knowing what was inside? And if her associate and the environment in which she was staying did not raise some suspicion then maybe not an idiot but definitely naive.

Read the full story of this . I believe she is totally innocent. For one, I don’t know how many times I have signed for neighbours packets or parcels, but many. And I’m,sure nearly all of you have. The postman, probably a policeman, arrived at the restaurant while she was working , and insisted she sign for the packet. It was not in her name or her boyfriends, but a previous owner. She didn’t even look. 5 mins later she was arrested. In the meantime, the famous boyfriend Triss Nepps ( USA) had left the country , and after claiming she was totally innocent, finally admitted that he was an international drug smuggler. He will not come back to Thailand to innocent his girlfriend obviously.

He said she had no bank account, absolutely no transaction possibility and knows nothing.
Just on the grounds of signing for a packet does not merit this handling of the case. Hopefully the lawyers are good and some sense will come out of a horrific experience.

But we don’t know if the girl knew this do we ? This news came out after. Apparently he was a science teacher in a Samui school when they met.

Yes. That's the process here in Thailand.

You havnt read the evidence from TV's pinnacles of wisdom and presented above have you?  I'll summarise for you to make it clearer:

1.   She should have known better at the ripe old age of 22;

2.  The case involves drugs so she should immediately hang twice without trial;

3.  She shouldnt sign for a parcel knowing 100% it contained drugs even though she

       worked at a restaurant where parcels would be delivered frequently;

4.  She most definitely knew her bf was a drug dealer, her short relationship is no excuse;

5.  She was a prostitute which automatically makes her evil and guilty;

6.  Her boyfriend comes from Africa so is black therefore obviously a drug dealer and

       pimp;

7.  If she wasnt a criminal she would be home chained to the kitchen sink wearing a

       French maids outfit.

Case closed!

I can hardly believe that this is true. Sorry but i doubt the Thai court just jailed her based on this alone.

Often people who are jailed for drugs have their own version of events they tell their family.

I for one don't believe it was just signing for a package. Too bad the people who wrote these articles did not do a bit more research. Even in Thailand the courts are not that crazy.

This story illustrates how careful one has to be in a country with a corrupt police and judicial system.

I was reminded of the TV series " Bangkok Hilton" starring Nicole Kidman.

I make no judgments on her guilt or innocence, except to say I would never sign for a package that I was not addressed to me, and/or was unexpected.
