A Royal Thai Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed while on a training flight in the north-eastern province of Chaiyaphum this afternoon (Tuesday), but the pilot managed to eject safely, according to Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) Air Vice Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee.

He said that a rescue team was immediately sent to the crash site, in Chatturat district, after the 103rd Air Wing Command had been alerted of the accident.

He said that that the pilot had been assisted by villagers in the area and the rescue team when it arrived. He also urged villagers not to get close to the plane wreckage for safety reasons.

Most likely due to brake failure and wet roads. No pilot faults.

  • Don't worry the other thread running indicates they are going to buy a few F-35s . So boys please try harder with your toys and learn to play with them properly, not keep breaking them.

Thailand only has around 50 F-16's....so the crash reduced their F-16 fleet by 2%.

I believe it is the second one to crash in the past few weeks if my memory is correct

The damn fuel pump on the F-16 has always been a problem .... but I thought it was sorted

So, let me get this right, all the enemy has to do is wave a bunch of birds into the sky and Thailand's Air Force is obsolete ? I'd like to think my purchase would do more.

Last December, one F-5 fighter jet, of the 211st Air Wing, crashed while on a weapons training exercise in Chai Badan district of Lop Buri. It is believed that the crash was caused by a bird strike, later identified as an open-billed stork.

I guess the micro-nap, an unexpected electric pole or tyre blowing out, won't wash when piloting a military  aircraft.

Moral of this story; Never take selfies for your Instagram Google Twitter Facebook feeds while pulling 4 G's at Mach 1.2 lol ????????

I see those jets flying over our house like daredevils a few times a week.

They fly them the way many Thais drive.

The life expectancy of jets, or pretty much anything here is shortened by the bad treatment they get.

That was an expensive crash!

... yes, something was 'going down' not too long ago, don't remember any details though ... also it feels like they're finishing like 1 whirlybird per halfyear, statistically speaking.

About 15 years ago I used to give a fair amount of work to a very good machine shop in Rangsit not far from Don Meung airport.

They were often producing copy aircraft parts for the RTAF.

So much for rigorously tested traceable aircraft components.

Further investigation by the TVAIB (Thai Visa Air Investigation Branch) has concluded that the bird concerned was, in fact, an alien manufactured stealth drone operated by disruptive factions of a well known terrorist organisation.

And they want to get the F-35? Fortunately, the US will likely turn down the request, knowing that Prayuth and his boys would be thrilled to cosy up to the CCP, and share the technology.

And then there was the Saab Gripen they crashed at an air show in Hat Yai.

Did you lookup the number of F16s which have crashed in the US before hitting the keyboard?

What's that got to do with the RTAF ?

why bash the RTAF?

Sat in Nong Bua Daeng, just north of Chaiyaphum and just heard two low flying jets pass over head and return 20 mins later........never heard or seen that in Thailand before.......!!

The asian countries would be better off joining forces to "share" a common military force that oversees national and regional security.
