Popular Post webfact
Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath have suggested that Thaksin Shinawatra's daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra might be a candidate for Thailand's next PM. They reported that the woman known as Ing - now in her mid 30s - is the chairwoman of the Pheu Thai party's Engagement and Innovation Advisory Board and widely seen as the head of the "Pheu Thai" family. Thaksin has been in self imposed exile since 2008 after being tried in absentia for corruption. He was ousted in a coup in 2006. Ing played down her possibile candidature saying that it was not all about her. But she said that the party was ready once again to serve the people. In an interview she spoke of the 23 year history of Thai Rak Thai and how it morphed into Pheu Thai. In relation to her father - often seen as the driving force behind the party she said: "My dad wants to come back to Thailand to take care of his family. "He's not in charge of Pheu Thai any more but we always consult him of course. "You wouldn't expect anything otherwise in a close family like ours". Thaksin's sister Yingluck also served as PM of Thailand before she was ousted by the current government of Prayuth Chan-ocha whose tenure has lasted since 2014. Popular Post robblok
Let Thaksin come back do his time then he can take care of his family. Why would he have to get a free pass. Anyway people are stupid if they think its not him pulling the strings. She is just an other puppet just like his sister. I hope for this puppet that it ends better. Its just that they are all used to push an amnesty through and that lands them in trouble. Instead of working for the people they work for Thaksin. Not that the other side is much better they also don't work for the people but their own gain. Just two bad choices that will never change. Popular Post JonnyF
I guess it's possible she could become the next PM, assuming free and fair elections are ever held. But if the Thai people elected her via the ballot box, it wouldn't be long before the army got the tanks out to "return happiness to the Thai people" again. 56 7

But prefer future forward. I think neither the Thaksin party nor the government parties are any good. All are self serving, future forward might be the only exception. 22

Popular Post Thailand
Any election will just result in more of the same, soldiers in civvy clothes divyying up the spoils. Too many things need to change here before the current incumbents and cronies are going to be removed 11
Popular Post NanLaew
With the currently under-performing and unpopular government being increasingly challenged by the financial fallout of global realities and unable to tie their own bootlaces, it's about time they allowed another Thaksin bogey(wo)man to be resurrected. Then, when they inevitably win another public mandate to govern, the usual detractors will magically be unleashed to foment increasing disruption to the lives of Bangkok's nominally enlightened but not really motivated citizenry. You know the heavily financed and mortgaged to the hilt middle class 'living the dream' who rollover when the tanks roll out. As for the provinces, those great bastions of bought-and-paid-for voters, well... they don't really matter (never have and never will). They will have once again been allowed to deliver on their time-served purpose of getting someone else democratically elected (again) who must be undemocratically removed (again). Rinse, repeat... 6

Popular Post spidermike007
Anyone would be better. Even Porn the Som Tam gal, or Nit the maid would be a better leader than the TRex. Covid exploded due to an extreme lack of experience and skill, coupled with favoritism toward the cronies, tourism was destroyed, the economy was decimated, real estate tanked, exports dropped, suicide skyrocketed and so did homelessness, unemployment and desperation. Congrats Prayuth. Your mission is nearly complete. 12

Popular Post OneMoreFarang
What is worse? That Thaksin is willing to sacrifice one family member after the next for more power and more money? Or that those family members do what he wants? Or that people are willing to support any family member from Thaksin just because they are family members of Thaksin? It's all bad. When will the majority of Thai people start to support and elect honest competent people? When will they understand that when they vote for corrupt incompetent people then they shouldn't be surprised if they have a corrupt incompetent government? Obviously that also happens in many other parts of the world, including so called 1st world countries. But that fact this happens elsewhere doesn't make it any better.

Popular Post trainman34014
Thaksin must be running out of Relatives soon. Who next; three month old Grandaughter ? Why is it that nobody in PT can lead the Party to Victory except a member of the Thaksin Family ? It's true to say there are not a lot of great minds in Thailand but you would think there would be enough to construct a Party that could do better then The Army or PT when it comes to running and progressing the country. Maybe the 'few' with serious grey matter just can't be bothered with the hassle ! 5
