Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha decided to delay the proposed 300-baht ‘land-entry’ fee for international arrivals and an expected 20 million tourists to visit Thailand in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The Prime Minister gave an interview after the general Cabinet meeting this afternoon, May 3rd, that the government had inspected the increase of the export value of incoming foreign tourists which was a good sign.

Moreover, more flights were arranged and tens of thousands of tourists were coming in every day since May 1st. It is expected that domestic consumption, mainly from tourism, would improve as well, said the Prime Minister.

That even made a crack in the crystal ball.

Instead of delaying the 300 baht land-entry fee, why don't you attach 300 baht to every little elephant you give out? It would be like saying the first drink is on me.

“The Cabinet would look at the suitability before considering the collection because the money must be used to do other things as well."

What does this mean? I was under the impression that the tax was supposed to be used to enhance the tourist experience and provide some kind of unspecified medical insurance. Now, apparently, it might have another purpose, which surprises no-one.

20 million tourists in the last quarter eh? Those must be some powerful 3-D glasses he's wearing.

Just a few days ago it was 5 million for all of 2022.

I suspect he meant 20 million in all of 2023?

Not sure what to make of this statement except to say the regime is desperate to suckle at the teat of the foreign tourist.

I am curious as to what the

“ export value of incoming tourists” means if anything surely “ import value”

Guess I won't be part of the 20 million they're expecting by the 4th quarter if they don't soon get rid of the Thailand pass system and the added covid insurance requirement, because I won't be making any plans to return until they are gone.

So many many people are saying..... it is getting a bit tiresome really as if the Thai authorities are concerned over these odd noises of foot stamping from afar. As noted many are quite prepared to take on the limited restrictions we have now....  even they will be gone, in their own time.

20 million expected in the 4th quarter?? ????

The wildest, most pie-in-the-sky predictions I've seen for international tourists for this entire year were in the 10 million range.  For him to be thinking 20 million in the 4th quarter shows what a poor job he is doing with managing things and making important decisions.   If he believes 20 million international tourists are coming in the 4th quarter, that very wrong information will likely mean bad decisions on both tourism and other things related to tourism.  To make good decisions you need to at least start with good, accurate information.

20 million baht x 300 bht = is a lot  will it go the cover hospitial fees for those who cant /dont pay ???????????????

I seriously doubt that Thailand will get 20,000,000 tourists the remainder of this year.

Can someone explain to me how this will affect my proposed trip to UK in August?  I am an expat & every year (for the previous 15) got a re-entry permit to return after visiting my family.  Do I need some form of Holiday Insurance to return or is my 800K in the bank enough?

There is no transparency with this proposed tax, that's why they want it so can buy more toys for the army, navy etc

It's just the latest gravy train idea.

They quoted a high number on day one. How about since then? What are the daily arrivals now? 4th quarter arrivals are more likely to be in the range of 600,000 to 800,000 total. Expect no more than 200,000 arrivals a month, for the next couple of years. They slaughtered the Golden goose. It is not waking up anytime soon.

Has it dawned on them (though I very much doubt it)?

Take for example a family, mother, father and 2 children in Malaysia or Cambodia or Laos or Myanmar. They wish to have a short holiday in Thailand and want to travel there by land, but that is going to cost them 1,200 BHT just to enter. With the introduction of this fee there will be a lot of people changing their plans and going elsewhere, or just holidaying in their own country.

Chinese tour groups will soon be starting to swim across the Mekong en masse.

Collect it and let it be public controlled.... How many tourists came, paid and where is the money going...Ask embassies to take place in the commitee, publish the results and everybody will see there is no pocket money... But.. as we all know... It would never happen and the money will disappear....

20 million in a quarter is equal to 80 million tourists during a whole year, which is a double up from pre-Covid 2019 - truth or wishful TAT-calculator? - by the way, does anybody know the brand and model of this amazing calculator...:whistling:

Mr Flip Flop just realized the 300 baht, won't cover hospital fees, more tourists attraction infrastructure and have any left to line the pockets of him and his cronies.
