If its a 'slam dunk' case as you put it why hasn't he been indicted and tried in court?

He hasn't, so he is innocent! Because he has not been proved guilty! LOL

I didn't make up "Innocent until proven guilty"

There needs to be proof, of Trumps intent, a lot of proof and not circumstantial as in a "conspiracy" prosecution. Goes to state of mind, what a person knows and you can prove. So far there is zero evidence of any intent by Trump, ZERO, (of pre-planning, seditious behavior, insurrection)

But AG Garland said he's "watching" the J6 presentation.

This is a good sign, but it's disappointing that there still seems to be around 40% of US citizens that still are acceptive of, even if not fully supportive of, Trump. IMO, he and all his followers ar

The wheels of justice are notoriously slow. Georgia is working on the case. The decision to indict or not has not been made public as yet.

I know a few American guys who are Trump supporters ( not me cos from the UK ) and they say that Trump was the best POTUS they have had in ages . He put America first , was pragmatic in his actions and a far more suitable man for the job compared with Joe . I liked Trump

Oh, right on. So, charges are pending, likely, expected?

Sorry for asking, I have not followed this story.

Truly bipartisan hearings can and normally do include cross-examinations.

But this one is not at all bipartisan or normal.

I heard McCarthy is upset that the hearings are completely partisan.  "All of the witnesses are Republicans!"

U refer to the Georgia case? I just quickly briefed over ( I was under impression that case was put to rest) it now and from what I read the state prosecutor will decide by June 30 if proceeding by way of indictment. There is talk of RICO case which is federal but that's highly unlikely.

Watch the public hearings provided by PBS on You Tube.

They will all be R's come Jan 2023.

I heard it on late night...it's a joke.  But it's true that pretty much all of the witnesses have been Republicans.  So the idea that it's a Democratic witch hunt kind of falls apart when the witnesses against/incriminating Trump are from his own party.

Trump was entirely correct, he could shoot someone dead on 5th Avenue and still maintain the support of his fanatics.

Fortunately there aren’t enough of them to win an election.

He gained office by conning ‘middle America’ it is they who are the target audience of these hearings.

The MAGA brigade aren’t listening, they don’t want to hear the truth.

Still in process.

We don't know for sure yet.

Indicting an ex president would be incredibly momentous.

My opinion is that Georgia will probably act but that's short of definite.

Just leave the guy alone and move on.

Wasting tax payers money trying to prosecute an Ex president. Most stupid thing I ever heard.

Get over it and forget him. Jeepers,

Use the money on something constructive like building some homeless shelters instead of trying to get a pound of flesh that benefits no one.

Bringing Trump to book benefits democracy and truth. Let him get away with it, he will continue to poison the USA.

On the basis of your proposition, the murderers, thieves and rapists in American prisons should all be freed and the jails shut down. Think of the taxpayer money that would be saved.

I am not any kind of a fan of Trump. I think the chances of Trump being "bent" are quite high. However, having a bunch of Democrats accompanied by a few Republicans (Ms. Cheney for one, whose father and boss Trump disparaged) gathering facts with no real prosecutorial power coupled with a Department of Justice which has been dormant up to this point, does not appear to be a sincere pursuit of truth and justice. It is most difficult to not view this process as an exhibition of the lust Trump's enemies have for eliminating him .

Does anyone really think Trump's constituency will listen to all of these allegations from Congress and then say, "Gee fellas and gals when you put it that way, we must admit Trump is a bad man and needs to be punished,  It will only motivate Trump's people to take further action and the cleavage between the two political parties will only widen.

There needs to be another process where impartiality is recognized and respected (excuse me for using foreign terms) . This is possible, but there is no political will to bring about an alternative process for seeking justice.

Unfortunately we are entrenched in a time when politics has been reduced to spectacle and the current Congressional proceedings mimic reality TV. Check out Youtube for videos of the Watergate hearings and look at the difference between now and then. That was a hearing. Witnesses appeared live, took an oath and answered questions in real time, none of this garbage with videotaped snippets. The current proceedings are for show. Democrats are shivering in their shorts about the mid term elections this November.

Meanwhile, in Texas the deplorables are out in force.

Republicans in Texas just voted to reject democracy

The news out of the Texas GOP is even more deplorable than your excerpt explained... To me, this was the most deplorable development:

Texas Republicans declare Biden election illegitimate, despite evidence

WASHINGTON, June 19 (Reuters) - Republicans in Texas formally rejected President Joe Biden's election in 2020 as illegitimate...

The party's embrace of unfounded electoral fraud allegations in a bedrock Republican state came as a bipartisan congressional committee seeks to definitively and publicly debunk the false idea that Biden did not win the election.

Biden received 7 million more votes than rival Donald Trump. Biden also received 306 votes from the Electoral College, more than the 270 needed to win."

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/texas-republicans-declare-biden-election-illegitimate-despite-evidence-2022-06-19/

The delusion among those folks is so strong... As the Reuters report points out, more than 50 state and federal lawsuits filed by Trump and allies challenging the election were heard and dismissed by judges liberal and conservative alike.

IMHO, when a political party abandons the rule of law and the tenets of democracy, and falls into attempted insurrection and sedition, they cease to be a legitimate political party and ought to be recognized for what they are -- insurrectionists and seditionists, and those who condone and enable them.

You're absolutely right. Make no mistake, the MAGA wing of the GOP have turned into fascists and should be treated as such. And the despicable being who gave rise and fuel to this filthy movement is the one who's behind the coup attempt, just because his frail little ego can't accept that he lost.

A jail cell is too good for him. :bah:

Love your sarcasm. Moving to the real world, Trump was stupid enough to suggest to his aides that he want to pardon himself in the final days of his presidency, according to 2 people with knowledge of the discussion.

As anybody who knows anything about Trump should tell you, he put himself, not America, first. One of his first acts on the environment was to change rules regarding fresh water in such a way as to benefit golf courses. How many golf courses and resorts does Trump own?

He also proposed and signed a tax bill that especially benefits pass-through corporations and real estate investors. Coincidentally enough, that's how Trump's businesses are mostly structured and where most of his investments are.

He also managed not to put his investments in a blind trust because, you know, genuine patriotism requires a willingness to sacrifice one's own interests and Trump is not real gifted at that.

The target audience is not Trump’s MAGA.

It is very right and proper that the Congress leaves prosecution to the DoJ.

There is ample evidence that the DoJ is investigating and prosecuting those involved in the Jan 6 attempt to overthrow the election result.

My mother worked for him at original casino in NJ, USA, and thought he was best boss she ever had.  And like me, takes a long time to warm up to anyone.  I'll take her word for it.

Lucky your Mom was not a small contractor hired on one of his projects.

Jenkins was just 19 when Triad Building Specialties, started by his father in the mid-1970s, got the $300,000 contract to provide guardrails, doors, stalls and paper dispensers for the nearly 300 public bathrooms at the Trump Taj Mahal casino overlooking the Atlantic City beachfront.

What Trump didn't say was that he financed the Taj with junk bonds. And what he did not tell the scores of contractors who worked on the overly lavish casino was that he could not pay their bills.

I didn't say it's a slam dunk, that was someone else's characterisation of it.

He hasn't been indicted up till now because the case hasn't got that far yet.

It's already gone to a grand jury in Georgia, but that was only empanelled just last month. They haven't returned an indictment yet, and it's expected to take a few months before they do.

According to the article below:

Quote

The panel will focus exclusively on “whether there were unlawful attempts to disrupt the administration of the 2020 elections here in Georgia,” Judge Robert C.I. McBurney of the Fulton County Superior Court told 200 potential jurors who had been called to a downtown Atlanta courthouse swarming with law enforcement agents.

Georgia Jury to Consider Whether Trump Illegally Interfered in 2020 Election

Just be patient, these things take time.

This is true - prosecutors only started to present the case to the grand jury last month. It could be a while yet.
