About 60 parliament police officers submitted a petition to House Speaker Chuan Leekpai today (Wednesday), to protest against the change of their uniform, claiming that it is a waste of taxpayers’ money because they received their previous newly-tailored uniforms only six months ago.

The same petition was also submitted to the opposition chief whip Sutin Klungsang and a few Pheu Thai MPs, including Khachit Chainikhom, an MP for Udon Thani province.

Khachit told the media that the people who have to wear the new kit don’t want it, while those who ordered the change do not have to wear it.

Hawaii shirt and shorts for this climate. Who thought head to toe polyester was a good idea?

Good on them to come forward and say it plainly. I guess it is not a huge expense but it is still a waste.

As long as they have the old uniforms sized to fit the ever growing force they’ll be fine. Otherwise we’ll be see a lot more trying to squeeze into their tighty brownies.

They look sorely in need of new uniforms these days.... if they move the buttons any more, they will be on the same side as the holes.

I dunno, with a new Mr Doughnut or McD next door those waistlines can dramatically change in 6 months

Instead of buying new clothes give the cash money to the police and tell them don't take now any tea money for a while ????.

'police officers say new uniform is a waste of money' as is paying them a salary.

And there was I thinking they were mostly self-employed !

I would have a guess the real issue here is not mentioned in the article. Its probably about "status" and looking like a police officer rather than an unknown guard.

Perhaps they would like it better if it had more "medals " ?

Most police dress like that already. Only "uniform" guys wear brown.

I guess they must save some money though by getting them two size's too small.

I guess that

1. The trouser pockets are too small and not much can "go in".

2. The trouser pockets are sewn up and nothing can "go in".

Or 3. Pants no longer have pockets at all.

Totally impractical when traffic checks have to be carried out.

Smart idea.

There very conservative here though.

Shorts and polo shirts might be easier to pass.

Uncomfortable and hot clothes definitely doesn't help the police work ethic.

White shirts and brown shorts with long socks..

I thought they had to pay for the uniforms themselfs or is that only for the volunteers?

How about adopting the Fijian Police uniform with comforting "wind in the willows"????

Fiji Police: the best-dressed in the world?

It's not about if new uniforms are needed or not. It's all about keeping the brown envelopes flowing.

When I first started visiting Thailand had my Passport stolen at Chatuchak Weekend Market. When I went to Police to report it  a very pretty  Police Officer asked " do you have Thai wife?"   I said  ,no. She then said with a smile  "do you want one"    555
