The deputy spokesman for the metropolitan police has assured the public that an allegedly drunk cop who caused a serious traffic accident in northern Bangkok will be dealt with just like any ordinary member of the public.

Thai Rath mentioned this several times almost as if they were incredulous with the very idea.

Daily News had a picture of the spokesman - Pol Maj-Gen Nithithorn Jintakanon - with a caption "No Exceptions".

The case relates to Friday when Pol Sub-Lt Jaran Nakprasitsak was driving his Toyota Fortuner in the Don Muang area where he is stationed.

He was off duty.

He was involved in a collision with several vehicles including a taxi that untimately led to a motorcyclist called Noppadol Reuang-arun, 40, being crushed under the Fortuner's wheels along with his bike.

This played out about 11.30 pm about 50 meters from the Sirisuk Intersection on Chang Akat Uthit Road.

Nithithorn said that the suspect will be dealt with just like a member of the public under traffic laws recently tightened up.

The public can rest assured that even though the suspect involved is a serving RTP officer he will be dealt with under the full force of the law, he told the media.

Police are waiting on injury reports and gathering witness statements before proceeding in the case.

What happened to the drunk police captain with a collection of Lambos who killed a street vendor?  Nothing!

My guess is that the fellow will be lent to the Ministry of Inactive Posts. No stranger to the booze, he might even enjoy the break - before being reinstated with full regalia ........

A drunk cop poked his maskless face through my car window at a check point when I was driving my 1 year old son to the emergency room late at night with a high grade fever that turned out to be COVID.  His face was bright red and grinning as he swayed about asking, "You ding bir mai." The Thai missus gave his colleague a tongue lashing and the drunken idiot was called off when the message got through to him. Don't mess with a mother protecting her baby.  Hopefully the caught COVID like the rest of us.

Farangs have a choice but most Thais have to stay here and put up with the disgusting drunken, corrupt, murderous rabble in uniform that passes for a police force.  It's a wonder they don't rise up and burn down police stations more often like they did in the student power uprising in 1973 that led to the ousting of the military dictators for a few short years.

Start with their own then. I nearly got taken out, along with 2 students, by a traffic cop on his PCX hammering through as we crossed the road ON A CLEARLY MARKED PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. Had he been heading to an incident he might have had an excuse if he had blues and twos on. What he actually did was pull in at a raodside food stall 150m down the road and get his lunch.
