Certainly agree with you that the high airfares will keep many people from going to Thailand. Currently at least double, or higher than pre covid days. Problem is with the current price of oil, when will they come down? Or are the airlines trying to get back some of the money they lost over Covid?

NATO hasn't made any pronouncements on the war in Ukraine I don't think. More's the pity. But this thread's about holidaying in Thailand as a way to save on your fuel bills back home. Bizarre. As has been pointed out,  cost of same, just flights and accommodation, is probably worth a year's fuel bills. And impossible to switch off heating in an empty house. Still needs to be kept well above freezing.

Has no concept of, Council tax, Standing charges, and like you said, can't just turn the heating off and walk away.  ( uk) what a bunch of fools the are.

But no real surprise,  as there is only one center of the known universe

and it's Thailand.

I am in Karon, Phuket right now on holiday. My home is in Chiang Mai and can’t wait to get back home tomorrow.

Guess Covid times must have affected my brain as I completely forgot how crappy  this place is. 
 

Russians everywhere (feels like having taken a Time Machine back to the 80’s), Boring restaurants all with the same menu, Inflated prices and not even good or friendly service in return.
 

Actually I have never experienced so many rude and arrogant Thais (shop owners/managers) as on this trip.

 

Probably still a great place for the typical middle-class family with kids and the regular sex-tourist coming for the “I am a millionaire” few weeks trip.
 

Besides that, it has absolutely nothing else or better to offer.

I know many OAP's who close up their UK homes for the winter and spend their time in CM. This was before the present financial crunch.  Their savings from not having a "Summer" holiday and not running their UK house paid for the trip, 

 

It is not so much about not affording to pay the Energy bills but more a case of why not spend that money on a holiday instead!

 

The ignorant goons heading this agency know very little about anything, much less tourism. They just assume all foreigners are loaded with cash. And even more mistakenly, they assume Thailand is still attractive to wealthy tourists, which it is not for most. 

 

Tourism will remain deflated for years to come. Too many mistakes have been made here.

Too much destruction.

Too little improvement.

Too much hubris. 

We must be very strange as booking our flights to thailand our electric bill never once came up in our thinking. I think if your going on holiday because your worried about your electric bill maybe spending over £2,200 on a flight isn't a good idea.

Yup, nobody is coming sorry TAT.

The same holiday we took last January would cost double now what it did then. Flights are £1000 across the board and the hotels we stayed at are at least double what they were a year ago.

Exactly! You could always get a fare through middle east for £400 or less, now around £950-1000

A lot will depend on currency exchange rates. There is a good chance Baht will be losing value slower than Euro or Pound this winter because Thailand doesn’t shoot itself in the foot damaging relationship with strategic energy suppliers like western countries do.
