Thailand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai

 

Thailand abstained from the UN resolution to condemn Russia’s annexation of eastern regions of Ukraine last week because it wants its voice on the crisis to be heard, according to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

 

Don also dismissed speculation that Thailand’s abstention was designed to please Russian President Vladimir Putin who has reportedly confirmed attendance at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held in Bangkok next month.

 

“It has nothing to do with whether or not President Putin will attend the summit,” Don told Thai PBS World.

 

Thailand was among 35 countries that abstained from the resolution. Laos and Vietnam were two other ASEAN countries that did so.

Well done Don. Now is not the time to acquiesce to endless US propaganda, but to use your own brains to decide whether the US is a force for good in the world or a force for evil. With the endless wars started on a seemingly daily basis against anyone who has oil, it would appear to me, they are a force for evil and theft (of Syrian oil).

Be nice if they could stick with one reason, but think there's a lot of blowback on this so they keep trying to justify the abstention while never acknowledging the initial vote FOR condemnation.

 

Inconsistency, incompetence and appeasement - the bedrock of Thai "diplomacy".

IIRC, it's the Russians who bombed the living daylights of everything in Syria to support Assad's brutal regime.

Permit me to doubt Putin's invasion of Ukraine is a force for good, although it is certainly about continuing the theft that commenced in 2014 with Crimea.

Dear FM, do you not think that by failing to go with the UN vote it actually enhances Thailand's standing in the World Community?  If you feel it is right to support one aggresively rogue Country and it's corrupt acolytes, which are far less than the majority who do vote with the UN proposal, you clearly have a different view on how to enhance your world standing.

The letter the Thai ambassador refused to deliver to Washington was a declaration of war. A notable example of a diplomat taking matters into his own hands. Similar I guess to the current situation with Myanmar and "their" UN ambassador.
