A German man in Pattaya had an intense standoff with police as he was reportedly afraid to be arrested for an alleged overstay.

The Banglamung Police, Immigration officers, Public Health Staffers, rescue workers and the Pattaya News arrived at the house in question in Soi Panya Nimit in Nongprue late this afternoon (November 7th).

Mr. Tomas Veit, 47, a German national, was found in an enraged and erratic state according to Banglamung police. He was trying to call on the phone his 35-year-old German wife for help while pointing a knife at his neck inside the house and refusing to surrender to Immigration officers or police, as well as refusing them entry.

You call that being treated like animals lol....If this was in the U.S. or any other country where cops actually have a set they would be picking this guy up with a spatula by now. The guy was throwing bottles at the cops, almost blew up the neighborhood and being a menace. What are the cops supposed to do, roll up the red carpet and thank him for not cooperating.

I hope that I never end up like that .

Shouting and screaming and sitting on roofs and throwing thing about and setting things on fire  .

I would hate the attention and would feel extreme embarrassed by my behaviour .

What did the guy think was going to happen when he played up?

Did he think that the Police would go home and leave him alone and forget about him ?

So what should the police / immigration officers do if he's not cooperating, just walk away?

Overstay is a serious problem in any country.

Go over in Australia and the search to find you starts immediately and is very serious and they find 99% of overstayers very quickly. There's no 'if it's not convenient now, when should we come back?'

i really like those metal stick push things they use here. very effective in cases like this and much better than say a bullet.

i know i tend to hold a knife to my own throat when on overstay. err.

Heavy handed because he refused to cooperate and leave the property peacefully , leaving the Police no other choice than to force him out

It is what I describe as an adult tantrum.  In denial and just delaying the inevitable.  His own doing unfortunately.  Thai immigration doing their job.

The best thing that he could have done would be to go peacefully and immediately  to the Police station and try to arrange something to clear his overstay , now he will have to pay a fine which may be the same cost to fix his overstay

German again?! ????????

I suspect our resident Brit-hater, Gottfrid is going to be extremely quiet on this thread !!!! ????

Seems he was a horrific neighbour with his dogs chasing kids etc.

They’ll be happy to see the back of him - it must have been horrible living next to this character.

"He was trying to call on the phone his 35-year-old German wife for help "

No one yet has made the suggestion that it may have been her that informed the Police about his overstay

In the US, he would likely have been shot and killed. He sounds like an absolute fool. Though I give the cops here very little reason to harass me, I find them to be relatively easy to deal with, and rarely ever do they overly flex their power like in the US. Some departments in the US are worse than others. Many cops there are drunk with power. Some are here too. But, not nearly as many, and they are significantly less obnoxious here.

Mike, this is a about  German guy in Thailand , its not about anyone in the USA or bout the USA's Police force .

Its about Thailand , not the USA

I can understand why he was so upset, with German immigration policies being so free and open over the last 100 years or so.

Very sad situation nonetheless!

Another dog related story!

Cops showed up after investigating neighbor complaints( dogs chasing bikes) and during that time they came to find he was delinquent on his visa!

Yes. I realize that. But, they are referring to the police being heavy handed, and that is a very relative thing for many of us. So, it is relevant from a standpoint of international perspective. It was not a political statement.
