The Sixth Commandment ( 4 part mini series )

Based on a true story.
Timothy Spall plays Peter an aged academic who is heavily involved with the church, he struggles to hide his homosexual tendencies until he meets Ben, one of his pupils. Ben is perfect and when Ben starts to show Peter some affection he cannot believe his luck …. but things are about to take an unexpected and deadly turn.

Have seen this and it is very good IMO, one of the best I have seen in ages.

Thanks to those who recommended 'Black Cab' - excellent.  Just started 'Payback' which looks worth it.

The Reckoning

Steve Coogan plays Jimmy Saville in this 4 part mini series.

Will be interesting how the BBC appears in this as they surely must take some of the blame for the freedom Saville had during the programmes he made with them.

NOTE: this series has been produced by ITV Studios but will air on BBC

“All four episodes of The Reckoning are released on BBC iPlayer on Monday (9 October). The series will also be broadcast on BBC One on Monday and Tuesday nights at 21:00 BST for the next two weeks. “

from BBC Website.

There have been many documentaries but this, I believe, is the first dramatisation of Saville’s abuse. Hopefully it is good as was the recent Ripper series ( The Long Shadow ).

Enjoying this British crime drama.

Outstanding 10/10, if only more TV drama were this good, thanks for posting it

Currently enjoying The Long Shadow - I was only a kid in the sevz' and I find these dramas fascinating, like White House Farm, as it jogs my memory about stuff I wasn't too aware of at the time. My father was telling me how uninterested he is in docu-dramas, then filled me in about The Reckoning as @Andrew Dwyer mentioned, features Steve Coogan, should be good.

If you liked The Boys then you might like this:

Gen V:

“ From the world of The Boys comes Gen V, which explores the training of the first generation of superheroes to know about Compound V, and that their powers were injected into them, rather than God-given. These young, competitive heroes put their physical and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the school's highly coveted top ranking. They quickly come to learn that ambition comes with sacrifice, and the difference between right and wrong is not as clear as they once believed. When the university's dark secrets come to light, the students must come to grips with what type of heroes they are going to become. “

Sick to death of super hero films, been done to death, first part of the Jimmy Savile drama on iplayer was better than I thought it would be. Not at all convinced by the women in the BBC office interviewing him for top of the pops disapproving of him though, as if the BBC is claiming- some of us were against him from the start.

Agree with the super hero movies deal, not a fan of Marvel or DC, never got into Star Trek as a kid and think I have watched 1 Star Wars movie, Batman is about the only franchise I like.

But The Boys were different, sort of anti super heroes with a lot of deviant behaviour adding to the fun, escapism at its finest, hopefully Gen V is in a similar vein.

The BBC drama/docs are usually top notch and hopefully this JS drama will live up to the hype. Casting Coogan in the lead role isn’t such a great idea for me, detracts a little as I find myself looking at him through the makeup and seeing Alan Partridge, an unknown would have been better imho.

Here’s a movie i watched a while ago and liked.

The age of Adaline: a romantic fantasy drama with Blake Lively and Harrison Ford

“ After miraculously remaining 29 years old for almost eight decades, Adaline Bowman has lived a solitary existence, never allowing herself to get close to anyone who might reveal her secret. But a chance encounter with charismatic philanthropist Ellis Jones reignites her passion for life and romance. When a weekend with his parents threatens to uncover the truth, Adaline makes a decision that will change her life forever. “

I also watched it a while ago and enjoyed it.

Started to watch Obituary: ( crime drama tv series )

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23458434/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

“ 24-year-old Elvira Clancy is feeling unfulfilled, although she adores her job writing obituaries. When her newspaper falls on hard times, her boss tells her he is unable to keep her on the payroll and she finds herself being paid per obituary overnight... When she "accidentally" kills a nasty piece of work in the town, she discovers she might have an untapped blood lust. She relishes using ever more crafty methods to kill off the town's unpleasant residents while making them look like accidents. Unfortunately, a wrench lands in the works - the paper hires a suspicious new crime correspondent with a penchant for conspiracy theories, and she really, really likes him. “

The premise for this sounded good and I thought I would enjoy it but I just didn’t care for the cast especially the main character Elvira, anyone watch this and liked it ?

Now watching Who is Erin Carter?, an action crime adventure tv series .

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18075020/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

” Erin Carter, a British teacher in Spain, finds herself caught up in a supermarket robbery. When one of the robbers claims to recognize her, her life threatens to unravel. In Palomino, a town of secrets, she must fight to clear her name and protect her family. “

This started off a little amateurish but towards the end of the first episode I took a liking to it and will persevere.

All 3 episodes (for those that have already downloaded some).

I enjoyed them thoroughly but my missus thought they were a bit "too much action" and wants me to find something a bit more mellow and romantic... :whistling:

Any suggestions?

Gave up, rather silly storyline right from the start

It's a black comedy, wasn't supposed to be true to life. I found it amusing and entertaining and well acted.

Watched the whole thing last night, mainly because of Steve Coogan, who did a fair job, but I did see some "Alan Partridge" in some of his lines. Found it all a bit repetitive, and skipped some

Agree, British Horror Story brought it all home, the level of adoration he achieved from major politicians to Royal Family, from high ranking police to high ranking BBC officials, from academics to Joe public !!

He fooled so many and so many chose to turn a blind eye !!

Essential viewing.

We watched half way through Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One  last night,  doubt very much we will be watching the second half this evening.........

Lol, I actually fell asleep for 10-15 minutes during it... Best laugh was this was in the 4D Max cinema with the moving seats/atmospheric effects etc... ????

Felt a bit like John Wick 3 where the whole point of the movie seems to be to set-up the next one.

Just finished the JS series, "The Reckoning" and thought it was good, although not as good as some of the reports I read. Having said, that the man was an animal and an evil human being if that's what you could call him, and I thought Steve Coogan played him well with a lot of typical JS mannerisms.

I am now three quarters of the way through the series, "The Long Shadow" and what has stood out for me was the absolute bungling by the police force, with hardly an ounce of brain between the bunch of them........how on earth such dunderheads ever got to be in such positions of authority in the British police force, is beyond me.

On that point, it became terribly frustrating (for me anyway) watching these drongos try to go about their business, because they didn't have a clue.
