From what I understood they stay open but cannot serve alcohol, that's how it usually is.

Restaurants may stay open, and some serve beer in paper cups or tea cups.

Practically speaking, if you expect to be able to hit the bars on Soi 6 or the gogos on Walking Street on March 6, you will be disappointed.

 

Cue the usual questions about whether the bars and gogos will open at 12.01 on March 7.

Aha, that one yes. Many of them have done in the past yes. But why on earth anyone would want to go to them, where small bottles of beer are 180 baht, music is usually dreadful and girls are all boring I don't know.

We can agree that the venues where most people go will be closed on March 6, even though we might not all personally approve of those venues. There will be exceptions, of course, but for planning purposes, better to stock up ahead of time.

Cheaper to do so but less on offer entertainment wise.

Normally not. And many bars will not serve alcohol because they are afraid that Buddha will punish them.

Well, you could turn to the drugs instead of booze for a day. Some of them are legal now.
