I believe CCleaner is now owned by Avast. When installing CCleaner you have to opt out of installing Avast anti virus. As the OP is not computer savvy, installing an anti virus is going to cause even bigger problems.

Also if the OP does not know what he is doing CCleaner can damage the registry.

So use Glary Utilites as I suggested, which does NOT install any more of the crap you are trying to clean.

Most programs have add-ons, you must read every page carefully and "no thanks" to most of it.  ????

CCleaner is a good tool, I use their Speccy temperature thingy, but nothing else on their list, and you don't need Avast......

I installed Speccy, and it gave me different Activation numbers to that what I have used.

Can you not see temperatures somewhere in your Windows settings?

Quite right. I probably spend more time tweaking the PCs than actually doing work on them these days.

But a good session with Cakewalk and my guitar occurs quite frequently.

I work full time on PCs since DOS and Windows 3. And I had to fix many PCs where wannabe experts thought they fixed them previously. Most private PCs have way too many optimization programs installed. Professionals don't install 99% of those programs, because they are not necessary. Keep it simple!

Ahhhhhh, good ole DOS. I used DOS before any Windows was available. Along with my Hayes 9600 baud modem I could connect to many different Bulletin Boards (the days before the great WWW).

Thank you Mr Patronising. I was hoping for an answer from a human, but sadly no.

I use Bing, not Google by the way.

OK, I clicked on your link, although one should not do that if it is from an unknown or dubious source. And yes, you can get viruses and malware if you go onto those kind of sites. But surely your Antivirus should pick it up if one is detected.

Well mine does!   555

Bing.....LOL

"And yes, you can get viruses and malware if you go onto those kind of sites." .....but yet you had to ask, too funny!

Not all antiviruses catch everything. And just like everything in life, some are better than others.

I don't need porn, I get enough of the real thing!

I had already a 14.4 modem card built into my first self-assembled PC, way faster. ????

There are a few reasons why not to follow any of them. But since there appears to be no feedback from the OP whatsoever, I’ll save the time of explaining.

You didn’t share the info with the OP in the first instance…

If you have malware software like 'Malwarebytes' try turning that off first. I was having a nightmare renaming folders until by chance I turned the anti-malware software off.

Let me explain a great website that has tons of useful information and it's easy as well as free to access. Using it will perhaps help minimize asking dumb questions on public forms.

It's called:  GOOGLE

To do what?

Nothing much; tried it a while back and it caused a few problems on my PC, so I uninstalled it PDQ.

Below is what a reputable testing organisation said about it: –

CONS:
Mixed scores in independent lab tests
Mediocre scores in our hands-on tests
No protection against dangerous or fraudulent URLs
Failed against modified ransomware samples
Slow full scan

Stay away from that one @roger101

You must remove all the junk.

You must ensure drivers are up to date.

Start with a few simple fix free downloads that you will have no problem using.

1. Norton Power Eraser.

2. IObit Advanced System Care.

3. IObit Driver Booster.

4. Click on > Settings>Updates and Security>Updates.

See what happens for starters.....☺️

Sorry to take so long to tackle this. Downloaded Norton nothing found. Then hit a problem, Malware bytes wont let me run IObit, any suggestions.

You cannot expect anyone to work with you if you take two months to take even a single step.
No one has even the slightest idea of what hardware you are running. Really a waste of everyone’s time. Come back when you are serious and ready to get going, answering questions and solving the issue….in one day.
