A relative of the 17 year old Thai-British teenager Woramet “Ben” Taota – who was murdered in Lampang in northern Thailand on Saturday – attacked the suspected murderer with a wooden stick during a re-enactment of the crime.

 

At 11am, officers from Mae Tha Police Station and Lampang Provincial Police escorted the accused, 44 year old Chaiwat Boonkarin, to the crime scene along the Mae Tan – Sop Prap Road in Moo 9 of San Don Kaeo subdistrict to walk through what happened on Saturday.

 

Ben’s British father Steven Graham arrived in Lampang this morning. As police officers escorted Chainat out of the station this morning, Ben’s parents were waiting outside. Through the police car window, Ben’s mother Ooy cried out, “Why did you kill my child?”

 

In response, Chainat raised his hands in apology. Ooy continued, “Why are you apologising to me? Why did you kill my child? Where is Pong?”

 

Ben’s 16 year old girlfriend Ping Pong is still missing. Chainat still has not revealed information about Pong’s whereabouts to the police, four days after Ben’s murder.

The father of a British boy battered to death in Thailand has furiously confronted the man who murdered his son, screaming at him: 'Look me in the eye, you b***ard'.

 

Shaking with rage, Steven Graham stared through the window of a police truck as sex crimes convict Chaiwat Boongarin, 44, was taken back to the spot where he murdered Woramet Ben Taota, 16, and dumped his body on Saturday.

 

 

The body of Mr Graham's teenage son was discovered on Sunday in a dense forest in Lampang, northern Thailand, prompting the 60-year-old businessman to rush to the country from his home in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

 

Today, he confronted his son's killer who was sitting in the back of the police truck after confessing to the crime. The window was briefly lowered before Mr Graham shouted: 'Scum, look at me in the eye, look at me in the eye, you b***ard'.

 

Speaking afterwards, he said: 'I want to throttle him'.

 

Suspect Boongarin, wearing a bulletproof vest, was then escorted in handcuffs to the secluded spot where Ben was found battered to death on Sunday morning, for a crime scene reconstruction.

These "photo-opportunity" re-enactments for the media by the Thai police are farcical. Saying that, if I was allowed near my sons killer in a public place like this I'm not sure how I would react. Actually I am sure but will abide by forum rules. Words cannot express what the father is feeling. What a tragedy.

The parents were sedate considering they are facing their child’s murderer for the first time. I’m not sure many people could resist being more physical given the situation

Hard to comment since we really don't know what happened other than the victim is dead.  Sad just the same.  I think the cops may have been hoping to learn more about where it happened as well as why.

Sadly I don't think the young girl will be found alive - too much time has passed without sight of her.  The story was that she had gone out on a motorbike with her boyfriend, the deceased so its fair to presume they were together when he was killed.

 

If that presumption is correct, I can't see the killer letting her live.  He had buried the young man in a grave so he clearly wanted to conceal the crime - no matter how poorly hidden the body was.  If the young lady was there and saw the killing there would be little point in hiding the body if she was allowed to live.

 

I suspect, given the killer's history, that the girl may have suffered other crimes before she was killed.  I hope to god for her sake, that my suspicions are wrong and she turns up fit and well.

They get too much media attention.. Although it is very sad that someone is murdered , the murders, thieves, fighters, just name what kind of criminals are getting so much attention everytime of the media. The cameras and micros and they want to ask... It seems they commit crimes to get the attention. Same as every crime has to be reconstructed... and blurred the face or hide the face of the criminal.. I don't understand why so much protection

These "re-enactments " here have all the class and contribution to forensic analysis as a Lakorn show. Do the idiots that commission them have any idea of the  principles and purposes behind their original application ? Of course they don’t,it’s just mindless ,unthinking ,juvenile showboating with absolutely nothing to contribute to the investigation achieving nothing other than triggering the ugly,farcical scenes here. Was there any accompanying "pointing"? ????‍♂️ 

Why don’t the accused simply refuse to participate in the bear baiting circus show that puts them at risk and serves only to incriminate them in the public eye? 

They bring a murderer in front of a family … I would make sure the bastard was dead straight after if it was my son … total fkn joke

A few years ago a top cop said they would stop, but well, you know..... A bit like another top cop saying foreigners carrying a photocopy of their passport info is okay while other cops demand the passport. Rules mean nothing in Thailand. Everyone, including the police, just do whatever they want. It's deeply ingrained into the culture.

You would have thought the police would be pre-occupied trying to find the young girl?

Maybe they are for confirmation of an admission of guilt. If the suspect cannot re-enact the crime, he is not the guilty party.

There is nothing to be done for the boy. Assuming the man is guilty of the murder HE KNOWS what has happened to the girl. She is missing, she needs to be found alive or unfortunately dead. Lets hope the justice system works well and gives the man what he deserves. Never to be free again. Better to be searching than re-enacting.

I pause to wonder why this unfortunate kid was not in the UK getting an education vs living in a village and then allegedly and very sadly got involved in running drugs for the guy that ultimately confessed to murdering him?

My Christian Anglican upbringing taught me to turn the other cheek to throw stones if without sin, my therapeutic profession also taught me to restrain and compartmentalise my anger rage and vengeful urges ... but when I read of things like this I admit I feel vengeful and wish much pain and suffering to the murderer/s.

Same as all Immigration Offices seem to make up their own rules and regs with total disregard for what is laid out in the official Immigration Head Office "rulebook". I remember someone pointing out to a particularly aggressive I.O. that there was nothing in the rules about a certain requirement, and the I.O. said quite blatantly "I make the rules in here"! 

Attacked seems to be the wrong word to use here.  Under the circumstances I think he was pretty composed.
