Farang vs banana lady-part2

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Posted my encounter with lady selling bananas at a monkey temple. No monkeys in sight so I asked for refund and eventually got it.
Part2-took the boy there again. 50thb she said for a basket. Ok I said. As she was handing it to me she dropped it, monkeys hovered them up. I gave her 50. She said another 50 as the first one was for the dropped basket. But you dropped it I said. She insisted that I pay another 50. No way I said. The idea is for the boy to walk around hand feeding the monkeys. He got no joy/value from seeing the monkeys cleaning the floor near the banana lady. She eventually and begrudgingly handed me another basket and the boy got the joy he was seeking.
farang 2: banana lady 0.

I expect just like the first episode to be called cheap Charlie, poor lady trying to feed her kids etc. I don’t care, the principle of the matter is I don’t like getting ripped off. We ended up spending a lot more at the temple, as we always do.

It's interesting that you post it here. What's the point? Warning the rest of us about the banana lady? Or Thais in general? Or about monkey business?

Don’t be harsh on her. Give her credit for trying.

A 50 baht win over a lady, what a man! ????

  • Popular Post

I was expecting a different kind of story about a banana lady, I've seen a few and the bananas weren't for monkeys.

I understand how Austin feels.  I look at it now this way:

1. Men are from Mars

2 Women are from Venus

3. Thai people are from Pluto.

4. Don’t go to war over 50 Baht.  It the issue was 500 Baht then I would agree with him.

I will never understand them.  I limit my interactions with the local people to the bare minimum.  I have my space and they have their space.  We intersect only if I need to make a purchase, got out to eat and once in a while get a massage.

I think small victories are worth celebrating.  If you ask yourself "would this woman behave in the same way if it was a Thai person?", the answer is probably "no", which means it is, although on a small scale, someone attempting to extort someone due to them not being Thai.

Ha another "it's a matter of principle" thing....grow up or grow old..????

I can't wait for part 3 !

Part 3 will be a news item about a street vendor stabbing a foreigner to death for not paying his bill.

We’ve had plenty of those. I don’t think (hope not) she’s the type. Just a little old lady trying to squeeze a farang for a few Baht. Not blaming her, just not letting her win.

Contribute to monkeys expect something from the visitors, and not only fed at one place at the same time every day as they should to avoid bites and other incidents.

Monkeys is a problem when they get to close especially around food

Was that your intention before you decided to live here?  Or have you just found it a bit too difficult to fit in here?

This simple inquiry might be extended towards many here who still haven't a clue.

Do you have a sense of humor? Also, as a foreigner how would I "fit in here"?   Most Thai people will likely never accept me into their community even if I spoke fluent Thai.
