Nakhon Ratchasima's Red Shirts are uniting to welcome Thaksin at Don Mueang Airport, expressing their desire for Pheu Thai to form the government successfully.

 

Somphong Prasatthai, the leader of Korat's Red Shirts, spoke about Thaksin's scheduled return to Thailand, stating he is personally delighted, reported INN.

 

Thaksin is considered an idol for the Red Shirts, who have fought tirelessly for democracy, enduring oppression under past regimes. His presence is a continuous source of inspiration for them. Consequently,

 

Thaksin's return would bring immense joy to Red Shirts nationwide.

 

Somphong himself plans to join the welcoming party at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport on August 10. Many Red Shirt supporters in Korat are also preparing to attend.

 

The mode of transport is not fixed, but they are determined to show their support. Thaksin's return during Pheu Thai's leadership is seen as a positive omen, assuring their party's ability to form a government successfully.

 

However, the prospect of Future Forward Party's potential exclusion from the government worries them. The Red Shirts consider Future Forward as a fellow pro-democracy party, having won a significant number of votes.

 

If they are not included, it may alienate democracy-loving citizens, causing them to lose votes in the next election. Personally, they wish for Pheu Thai to embrace Future Forward in the government, avoiding any divisions.

If they are really pro-democracy, they should now be campaigning for Pita to be PM.  The fact that they're happy with the result if it means Thaksin returns to Thailand suggests they favour one result over another, rather than what people actually democratically voted for.

 

Sadly, it isn't uncommon for people to claim they want a particularl progressive thing (democracy, human rights, etc.) but really they just want the result that they favour.

RTP and Immigration officers should have a transport van waiting as soon as the plane taxis to the gate and as it stops board the plane and arrest him on the spot before he gets feet dry inside the terminal.

I'm sure Pheu Thai forming government with Prawit will bring much joy to Red Shirts as well.

Because the red shirts (the subject of the discussion) are saying they are supporters of and fighters for democracy, when clearly they want something else.  Their being the same as the previous government is exactly the point.

I would love to see a Pita (MVP)  and Thaksin (Puha Thai )  alliance.

The election that brought the red shirts to power was an (almost) fair, democratic election. Just the usual vote buying by ALL parties.

As Thais at the time said to me "He may be corrupt - they all are, but he is the first that has helped me, my family and our village."

Now that sounds a bit like democracy to me.

If Thaksin is actually coming back then it is highly likely a deal has been done at the highest level.

The point is that they don't seem too bothered about Pita and MFP being brushed aside, even though they were the choice of a majority of Thais in a democratic election. This suggests that they don't care that much about democracy, they simply want their guy to be in power.

 

So they are saying "we fight for democracy", when in reality, they fight for Thaksin.

Actually IIRC the MFP were not the choice of the majority of Thais, though they did win more seats than any other party, they actually won only 38% of the votes cast.

 

It should be obvious to most people that the MFP, even with the other coalition parties, will not be able to form a government, so perhaps they should move over and let the next biggest party try to form a government and find a PM.
