Thai Police Pledge to Eradicate Foreign Motorcycle Clubs Involved in Alleged Criminal Activities

The Royal Thai Police (RTP) are on the hunt for five major foreign motorcycle clubs operating on Thai soil following a crackdown on the notorious Outlaws Motorcycle Club in Pattaya last month.

The RTP on July 21st launched a crackdown on the Outlaws group and arrested the alleged Austrian gang leader Thomas Ginner just as he was preparing to flee the country.

According to the RTP, Ginner’s motorbike club was notorious for engaging in transnational crimes and was implicated in an incident in which a German gang member named Olaf Thorsten Brinkmann was accused of murdering Hans Peter Walter Mack, a 62-year-old German property broker, in Pattaya last June. Brinkmann was arrested while hiding in a type of cubby hole at an Outlaws clubhouse in Bangkok.

Following Brinkmann and his three accomplices’ arrest and a crackdown on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, the RTP are now targeting five major motorcycle clubs operating in the country. These clubs include Outlaws Motorcycle Club or Outlaws MC, Hells Angels Motorcycle Club or Hells Angels, the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, which is also known as the Bandido Nation, the Mongols Motorcycle Club or the Mongol Brotherhood, and the Vagos Motorcycle Club, which is also known as the Green Nation, the Bangkok Post reported.

Most of the clubs are managed by Australian nationals and operate mainly in tourist destinations across Thailand such as Phuket, Koh Samui in Surat Thani, and Pattaya, allegedly targeting foreigners for protection fees in exchange for them to run businesses in the area. They occasionally even abduct or commit murders against foreigners for money, the RTP said.

Typically, the gangs do not meddle with Thai people as they know it will land them in trouble more easily than when they do with foreigners.

Whenever I interact with a MC member 1 on 1 (in the bars), it's always a pleasant, nice time, whenever I interact with them when they're with their group, it's time for me to check bin as things can escalate quickly.

Big Joke declares that it is necessary to amend the pension permit law because it is too easy to obtain it with 800,000 B. and that to attract quality people it will be necessary to amend it. I assume he meant quality person who is willing to deposit a few million in Thai bank.

The tic tac has begun for our departure from the country of the quick smile.

Who will do that with a smile? Criminals with their ill-gotten gains.

That's strange.  No mention by the joker as to how easy it is to obtain a visa with no money in the bank in exchange for a brown envelope with 25K baht to an agent.

Must be an urban legend.

Picking on retirees again rather than solve the problem. Criminal record check is a given and the 800k seems to be in his line of sight.

This is what bothers the authorities: 1979 Immigration Act, which allows foreigners aged above 50 to easily live in Thailand. Operative word being 'easily'.

The agent system went away after we had to keep 400k in the bank year 'round? He should have gone after the IO's who were facilitating it.

Prior to this character you could accept the rationale behind much of Imm's tightenings  e.g 30 day VE wasn't meant to be used to stay year in year out with 30 day border hops.

Edit just read the full source article we can't mention (it's the one you can trust aparentl).

If there is ONE thing that makes foreigners feel unsafe in Thailand it is changes in visa rules/requirements,

this character is an absolute menace to a peaceful retirement. All those who have been demanding stiffer visa criteria may find you wish being granted may involve you returning back home (if you still can). Som naam naar.

looks like he may be thinking about having everyone move to the OX - except you DO have to go every year to requalify. It is an utterly poor visa choice.

He stamped it out by making people who didn't use agents keep 400k in the bank year 'round. HTH.

Where did he say? Do you have any links to validate the veracity of your claim in your post?

Pattaya mail link gives the source they are quoting at the bottom and he does indeed say that. We can't mention source  here.

He understands that due to not their own fault, the IOs don't have access to earn in dollars. If they had access, I bet they would have earned more than people who flee their own country to seek refuge in a foreign land using either a "retirement visa" or a "wife visa".

Read the source cited at the bottom of the Pattaya Mail article. You will end up thinking this is more about getting rid of retirees than outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Why not crack down on all outlaw motorcycle clubs, foreign and local?

Yes i know, they are talking about increasing the financial requirements, probably another article tomorrow from Pattaya News

Seems all our visa problems/inconveniences are caused by just this one person.

If he is worried about corruption I could point him in the direction of somebody.

Should target the criminal bikers in particular (and not all retirees) to find a way to get rid of them.  Maybe with criminal record checks and a tattoo limit (eg. >10% of total skin area).

Eradicate the cubby hollers first they are menacing ????

RTP just shut up and get on with it.

Potential upgraded requirements were discussed in the Bangkok Post, which unfortunately I cannot link to, as the BP do not allow links to their publication.

If you search for "Bangkok Post Driving out the gangs" you will find the article/quotes from Big Joke.

That is stupid remarks. Where will Thais go to do their criminal activities? It's their land and they have 100% rights to engage in criminal activities. It's the police's job to stop criminals. But it's also immigration police's jobs to deport foreigners engaged in criminal activities. Foreigners are rounded up for criminal activities and deported in every country. But locals cannot be deported. Hence, they are rounded up and put in the jails.

It's easy to crackdown on foreign MC because of their member's visa status, not reporting 90-day, not reporting their whereabouts (TM30), etc. But for Thais, they have to establish criminal activities before cracking them down. It's tougher for local MCs to crack them down.

I though there was still a workaround on that requirement from recent comments I saw about agents and Bangkok Bank from one pats member...

Sorry, should have in some way better indicated I was being sarcastic. We all had to keep 400k year 'round but the agency business continued as before.

My understanding and what I have seen, the majority of Bandidos in Thailand is Thais. Some few former police and Army.
