Pattaya/Koh Larn-A young Thai woman was killed and an unidentified foreign man was missing after apparently being struck by a speedboat while swimming off of Koh Larn last night, September 25th, 2023 at sunset.

The tragic incident took place around 4:00 P.M. off of Tian Beach on Koh Larn. Witnesses stated a young Thai woman and a foreign man went swimming together when a speedboat seemingly delivering tourists nearby allegedly went into the swimming area and struck at least the woman. The boat reportedly paused briefly after striking the couple and then sped away.

The woman was later found floating deceased in the water off of Koh Larn and had signs of propeller marks from a boat across her body. She was later identified but her name has been withheld by The Pattaya News pending contact to her family and friends.

As of press time, the unidentified foreign man remained missing with divers searching the area.

You'd think you'd be safe in a swimming zone, not in Thailand

You are the only safety standard you have.

Yep, probably as risky as pavements!

Thai explaination, probably: "It was their Karma."

Great! I'll use that one when asked why I don't give a single baht to the numerous beggars who accost me (yes, accost, as I don't see them shaking their cups at the sea of their own countrymen). It was their Karma to become a beggar, better to not interfere with destiny.

Safety last as always...

Maybe the returning passengers can identify the boat and driver...

Very sad.  I hope they catch him.  Like someone else mentioned, they should talk to the people he dropped off.

One good thing the Tsunami did was purge Kho Phi Phi of these pests. It was good for a while now they are back in full strength.

They already know who the boat captain is.

weather it was him driving it at the time,  is another issue.

That means that the driver ( captain ) of the boat very well noticed the incident .

That he chose not to stop and help to save the victim's life ( by an incident that he caused ) , is a criminal offense in my opinion .

It is just like voluntarily killing someone ...

1000 baht fine and a wai seems like what we should be expecting next from the captain. Along with some good excuses why it happened and wasn’t his fault. Karma my friend is a bitch.

The brakes failed.

I have been saying this for years, prop. guards should be mandatory on tourist boats, so easy to make and fit, they had all of the lockdown to make them, safety in Thailand is non-existent. could be made for about 1k b.

I have made them myself in OZ.

We don't know for certain where they were swimming yet. There will be an investigation.  Judging by the picture, thats a huge swimming area. How are the boats supposed to come into shore? Theres probably more to it than some boat going over the ropes and into the swimming area and hitting swimmers. But that doesn't make it a good black and white story with good guys and bad guys.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Diligently.

Respectfully.

Above all, safely.

Speed boat "captains" probably only paid 300 baht a day, can't expect professionalism

Why are the boats even allowed to drive up onto the beach?

What's wrong with a pier?

Did you miss your medication today..........?  ????

There are few if any regulations in play at the back of the island, which is where it happened.
