A bus with faulty brakes caused a massive pile-up involving 14 vehicles on Rama II Road, resulting in numerous injuries. The crash occurred at 8am today.

The incident led to severe traffic congestion as the damaged vehicles blocked all four lanes of the road.

Upon arriving at the accident scene, officers from Bang Mod Police Station observed several damaged vehicles scattered across the road, causing a total blockade.

Volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation hurried to provide first aid to the 18 injured victims before transporting them to nearby hospitals. The authorities had to temporarily close Rama II Road, leading to a build-up of traffic.

According to 59 year old Boonmee, the bus driver of route 558, which was the cause of the accident, he tried to brake the bus when he reached the accident site, but the brakes failed. Consequently, the bus rammed into the parked vehicles, resulting in damages and multiple injuries.

Brake failure in Thailand means the driver is unable to correctly judge the stopping distance and was going too fast to stop in time. Nothing to do with mechanical failure. Surveillance footage showed

More like faulty brain no one believes this nonsense anymore ????

If a day went by without a brake failure accident, there have to be questions asked!!! Mainten Maintan Maintai  oh, you know that word!

About time the authorities start doing checks on these commercial vehicles for "faulty brakes".

It's a wonder some local hasn't picked up on it and opened a business to fix these machines.

They would do a roaring trade given the number of reported incidents with this fault.

Nevermind, there's somtam and yaba for lunch!

Hmmmm...?

Sound a bit Facebook , Line accident. :coffee1:

Did anyone notice Richard Smith on his scoot with full protective clothing popping to 7?

I think that the bus causing this mess, is one of the new Bangkok electric busses.

Rama II is a complete mess at the moment with the construction going on.

Yes, and how many more decades for construction is complete?

Surveillance footage showed the bus from route 558 speeding down Rama II Road

No vehicle should be speeding in a built up area, ever. In most countries they understand that.

That's a shame but probably not the only bus on the road with dodgy brakes.

Problem is the fines and compensation payouts here are very low compared to other countries, A relative of mine in the UK got run over by a speeding bus, and got paid out 250,000 GBP.

You've got me wondering if it's worth my popping back there to seek out a similar driver ...

Rama II has been under construction for 20+ years - its a lethal road IMHO. Some very dangerous driving on there.

Truck and bus 'brake failures' are extremely rare and almost all cases occur when brakes overheat on a long downward incline.

Truck and bus air brakes are held off by air pressure. If pressure drops below about 30psi a warning buzzer sounds and the brakes are applied by springs. Its fail safe.

I once had some road debris damage a brake line on a truck I was driving, I heard the warning buzzer and had time to move to the left (UK road) before the brakes applied themselves.

They are checked every year on a rolling road, with no load on, No checks are done on air visual gauges or audio alarms, or how long it takes to build up air pressure from empty to see if the compressor is working correctly.

In my past life, before the annual test; all brake drums were removed, and inspected, ALL rubber diaphragms in the actuators replaced, and new seals fitted in the brake pedal unit, air tanks drained frequently to rid oil contaminants and moisture. It seems here there is no proper service schedule. That requires spare vehicles in a fleet for use on service days. But all that costs money init.

Not a brake failure. More like the bus not allowing adequate space for braking. Some idiot bus drivers think they’re driving a racing car.

Seems like the faulty brakes excuse is almost a daily occurrence, now.

If they didn't drive with the pedal to the metal all the time, the brakes would last longer; I don't suppose that would make a difference to the service schedules, though.

Seems that many members here revel in misery for their beautiful Thai hosts with 5 laughing emojis.

If i had of been 18 westerners injured they would have been outraged and a call for respect.

I just saw on the news that three are critical. Others maimed for life.
