Who is the most successful farang in Pattaya

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I don't know if the word "successful" is what I'm looking for ,maybe it should be admiration

Ok there is no need  to name names ,but who your opinion is the most successful as a person in Pattaya in terms of achievement and helping others

,I don't know if that's the right word ,or is it admiration for a farang who assisted the community in doing what

Just describe what you think is "successful" farang or business

I'm not talking about someone financial or running 15 business's I'm talking about success in creating a better life for others even at a old age and creating things ,

I was just listening to a podcast of a British guy who at 65 retiring from his UK job decided to buy a wildlife park in Tasmania Australia, it went from a old ruined park to now a theme park ,that's success in life ,he wasnt doing it for money but to live his life to help Wildlife and create something!

I admire  from Canterbury tales bookshop in Pattaya , I think they did/do  a "community service" by having books and creating a "social" type group club for many lonely farang especially their bookclub meetings etc ,that to me is success because it brings lonely people together

Another was the muscle guy who used to feed the Soi dogs nightly , haven't seen him for years ,but that to me is someone I admire

What about the old farang who used to clean the Jomtien beach every morning ?

There should be a yearly Pattaya Community service award given I believe to someone who creates things for others

Pattaya council just received an award for being the best on the planet.

Some awards aren't very meaningful.

I know a guy who was very successful in his career und is living in Pattaya now. He likes to give back to the community and is financing several bars and supporting a number of girls, boys and ladyboys through his daily drinking and fornicating. I admire him for not discriminating between ownership of the bars nor sex of his partners...

Ronald McDonald.

Or maybe colonel Sanders ?

Can we hear more about your ga-ga man crush on the guy who owns a bookstore? This is like your 3rd love letter to him. Prob just someone who was superficially polite to him, instead of just waving him off as usual.

Odds of the OP attending a book club meeting: Considerably less than zero. What dog-eared paperback did you buy for 150 baht to support your dream date?

I don't know the criteria you want to use to answer your question, but I believe the owner of Trattoria Toscana is someone who found success in Pattaya. I spoke to him a few times and he left Italy for Macau, came to Thailand to open a small restaurant on the beach road where the Holiday Inn is now and then moved on to the current Trattoria Toscana/Moom Talay. And all without forgetting the commitment he put into opening the farm which he also uses for the products of his restaurant. And he is also a person who has given so much for the Pattaya community, especially for orphans. This, to me, is a man who has succeeded in Pattaya.

He's still there. Driving funny looking small Daihatsu 3-cyl pickup. His donation box is front of "Beach Surf" (?) restaurant. He does great job and has amazing life story to tell. Just ask.

He has been back since, in plain clothes.

Organizations like Father Ray, Rotary, and Chester charity ride comes to mind. No single foreigner.

There used to be foreigner members of Lions club and maybe Rotarians, they have since passed away

A lot of Restaurateur and hotel GMs in days past were pillars of the community too, not many from the old scene left these days

Oh and not forgetting local newspaper owners

Your right ,the Rotary clubs were big 20 or so years ago , nowadays they don't seem to attract farangs

Apparently this topic was attractive to you as well.

That attention seeking dude, no thanks.

I guess it is hard to tell who would be, but the richest I came across had a net worth of around 25 million dollars.

For my taste being successful includes most people would not recognize me.

Look at people like Justin Bieber (ok, you don't really have to look, I also don't look at him). He is super rich and relatively young, but he can't even go out of his front door without being molested by lots of people. And I am pretty sure he could go to almost anywhere in the world and he wouldn't be able to live a quiet life. That must be horrible and more or less the opposite of successful.

Let's not mention the many failures of this guy

I planned on doing the exact same.

I must have examined thousands of maps of tassie in fine detail, but have yet to decide which to buy.

What happened to the cars and penthouses?

Mr Sharky still has his penthouse 2 br condo at the top of View Talay 6.

I saw him at the lift one morning. Scared the crap out of me. Was too scared to talk to him.

Not at the top, in the middle.  I lived in View Talay 6 couple years, never wanted to talk to him, but I saw him in Bangkok a few years ago.  He lost all his hair from steroid abuse and didn’t look ‘scary’ anymore. 😂

The farangs who support the animal ambulance deserve a shout out. I saw them patiently take 2 hours to coax a soi dog with a broken leg into their net.

Greg Lange is not only successful, he truly gives back.  His community service organization did more for the Klong Toey slum community during Covid than any branch of the Thai government.   They rebuilt homes, repaired schools and provided food to all the shut-ins, every day.  Not just when the cameras were rolling.

Back around the Millennium, before the internet was an every day thing, an enterprising young Dutch guy in Pattaya had the idea of getting reprint rights for all the major British and European newspapers.  Every day, he would have printed that days front pages and copy pages and sell them all over Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok.  He quickly made a fortune, wisely reinvesting in a number of other successful businesses.  He had a Thai wife and they lived in the most lavish, expensive house in all of Pattaya and they drove matching Mercedes.  He was without a doubt the most successful expat in the city and she certainly had hit the jackpot, the luckiest lady in Pattaya.

Despite having everything, she wasn't satisfied.  Naturally, she had a lowlife Thai boyfriend on the side.

Then one day, the young Dutch man was found in a vacant lot, just a pile of ashes and bone.

It took 10 years of pressure from his family in Holland and the Dutch government for the Thai and Pattaya police to finally make an arrest.  The wife and her boyfriend as well as her uncle were finally arrested and  convicted of his murder 12 years after the killing.  Though they all got life sentences, I have no idea how long they actually served.

She had EVERYTHING every girl who comes to Pattaya dreams of but it just wasn't enough.   I remind myself of this all the time and have seen it so often: no matter how much they get, they still want more.  Enough is never enough.
