A Swiss man suffered head and leg injuries after he accidentally fell from the third floor of a condominium in Pattaya while smoking at 5am today.

The accident was reported to the Sawang Borriboon Dhammasatan Rescue Team at 5am today, December 7, where rescuers rushed to the scene in the Jomtien neighbourhood of Pattaya.

At the scene, the rescuers found a 27 year old Swiss man, mentioned as Louis, lying still on the ground in front of the condo. Officers reported that Louis had a broken leg and an eyebrow wound. They provided him with first aid and took him to a hospital for further treatment.

Another foreign man, claiming to be a friend of Louis, informed the rescuers that Louis was smoking a cigarette on the balcony of their shared room on the third floor of the building when he accidentally fell.

Accidentally, some unknown stuff would have got into the cigarette...???

Louis is just damn lucky they were given a room on the 3rd floor and not the 23rd floor.

What's going on with Swiss at the moment, I've heard of 2 suicides and now this guy

Easy to go over these 3 foot tall balconies at the best of times, but add weed (and possibly a night on the lash) into the mix…!

Not a good week for the Swiss falling from condominiums.

Especially those of us from the nanny states who are accustomed to being protected from our own poor judgment.

When I first moved into my 5th floor apartment in BKK, I found myself leaning out over the balcony to see what kind of birds were fighting on the 4th floor.  Had the patio been wet and slippery I could have easily gone over, since my center of mass was way out into empty sky.  A real eye opener...

A cigarette as reported is not what anyone would call pot...pot would be a joint unless you know less than nothing about weed.

Potheads are not awake at 5 am, only drunks are.

It does say on the packet that smoking is dangerous and that you should quit

I did about 20 years ago! (cigarettes, nothing else)

Quite safe on balconies.

But.... something unknown might/could pollute the cigarette... the possibility is very high.

Doing a bit of morning baiting? Good show!:clap2:

Well I have heard many times that smoking can kill you.

Is this story just another of those facts that we learn about?

Thai Balcony rails are built for midgets not Falangs, should be part of the safety demonstration on  all flights entering Thailand. :giggle:

Many Thai's don't use the balcony at all unless reaching over to dry clothes.

I don't want a ground floor room.

I do,

Too many mishaps from higher floors.

Also, it negates the need for a 3-foot balcony rail.

I don't like ground floor rooms. I worry too much about theft and don't like hiding my laptop each time I leave the unit.

Spike strips on the balcony rail have worked great for me so far. Nobody gets anywhere near the edge, including pigeon's. I don't think anyone that has fallen had a spike strip there.
