I was answering the member who suggested a trip to Africa. Read it again. 

And it would be a 7000 mile trip for me to get to San Diego, so no thanks, I'll go to the North Pole to see the penguins instead.

The way animals in captivity are treated in Thailand is disgusting.

In China I have seen visitors let their kids poke sticks or throw stones at them. I spoke out and stopped that, well until the next lot turn up at least. Zoos are horrid places IMO.

Only for so long you can abuse and neglect captive/semi-captive wild(sic)-life and expect them to florish or even just survive...

 

RIP innocent animals

We went once a year or two after it opened. Won't go again, especially at those prices for foreigners. Thailand gets enough of my money as it is. I don't feel the need to just throw it away on hyped-up, non-cultural events.

Bring back the dancing at Kalare. I'd pay for that.

Bring back more Kantoke dinner shows. I'd pay for that.

Thailand is quickly giving away its cultural attractions in favor of Amusement Park activities.

It is not one of the world’s top attractions…I don’t think it is one of CM known top attractions…it is not even on my CM recommendation list…nothing special about safari or the zoo here…typically average

Might be more accurate to say that zoos in certain countries, like China, are horrid places because the visitors don't genuinely respect the animals or the zoo authorities underfeed the animals and keep them in inappropriate enclosures.

Chiangmai Night Safari is far from a famous or even nice attraction, it is run as a tourist attraction with zero conservation projects, no proper education program and started many years ago with the plans to even have a restaurant where people could eat wildlife. The place charges foreigner 4 times the local price, the animals are under bad care and don't get proper nutrition. Chiangmai already had a zoo and that should have been enough. 

in its first year about 40+ animals perished due to lack of expertise, weather, irregular supply of specialist foods, forcing a temporary closure...don't you remember?

I can't imagine that the high pollution levels in Chiang Mai are good for animals, any more than they are for humans. 

This place has been a shambles since it first opened. First it was lion steaks and exotic burgers on the menu at the restaurant courtesy of that idiot Plodprasop. Then half of the original animals either died or escaped, all through complete incompetence and lack of knowledge. Been past it hundreds of times and never had a wish to go inside. A vulgar tourist trap!!

Animals should not be kept in any form of captivity be it a zoo, a circus, a night safari or anything else. I visited the Night Safari years ago and left feeling depressed because of the condition of the animals. Not long after, some dolt involved in running the place even suggested that the restaurants should be serving "exotic" meats such as zebra! This place is a legacy of the initial Thaksin era and needs to be wipe off the face of the earth. Chiang Mai would be the better for its closure.

No you won't. There are 0 penguins at the North Pole. There are some in Africa though and even some in the tropics (in the Galapagos islands).

 

And you won't find any Polar Bears at the South Pole either.
