Almost denied entry Hat Yai airport

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I arrived Hat Yai airport on Tuesday evening from Kuala Lumpur.

I had traveled from Ireland and only a same day transfer through KL.

I had a tourist visa issued from British embassy.

My travel history to Thailand was I thought not too bad.

Last June one tourist visa with one extension and then a 30 day border run which I left after 20 days, no extension. So 110 days total last year from June to September.

The previous year 5 months total.

However, the IO did everything she could to deny me.

I was well dressed, polite and had return flight, cash and hotel booking.

She even asked to talk to my girlfriend who was waiting outside.

She called over her boss and she tried her best to get me denied.

Eventually he told me I was ok but after stamping my passport was told no more tourist visas "last time".

I wouldn't recommend anyone to fly in to Hat Yai airport and if you do avoid the female immigration officer line.

I think it would of been easier if I flew on visa exempt too.

They seem to really dislike tourist visas

Call me cynical, but I don't think claiming a Thai girlfriend helped your case...

Assuming this isn't a wind-up.

That's not the case.

Visa exempt entries with short period spent outside of Thailand draws attention.

Your account is very unusual given your history of travel to Thailand

Are you sure about that? It does happen. Sometimes an immigration officer will randomly pull one aside and bully you even if they're wrong, not checking themselves because of face. I got accosted at a land border doing a 90-day bounce on a genuine UK-issued multi O and they would not have it, saying it was fake etc. Got the supervisor involved and they totally brushed them off, embarrassing the other IO, apologies etc. Of course you've gotta be careful nowadays with 30-day waivers and tourist visas (are you a tourist?), but sometimes immigration get it completely wrong.

Ah the good ole days of Triple entry tourist visas and then came along the spoiler’s regime.

Suspect you mean from Thai Embassy in the UK?

Definitely some kind of wind up if this is what they have to say on their first post with a new account.

Maybe if you post more on AN and show it to the IO. A clear pattern is emerging of this sort of thing only happening to people yet to make their first post on AN.

The very reason I found this forum way back was searching about a visa issue....

It makes perfect sense that someones first post is about a visa issue...

Of course, people could be cynical and suggest its someone trolling, but really, what is there to gain from that ?

The same old bored farang jealous of people who are here on tourist visas keeps on creating new accounts and fake denied / almost denied first posts.

OP,

I think they are "cracking down" on arrivals from Kuala Lumpur airport.

seems word is out that many white guys are using fake boarding passes from KL, or doing shady border hopping from Phuket to KL, so seems it's a red flag to them currently

Did it ever occur to you that this could be the same person that started both threads?   Hence the skepticism of any account with little or no post history.

OP,

ignore all the trolls who work for Thai Immigration, they try to spread disinfo on here every day like a full time job.

An established member with a number of posts and time on this forum makes such more of a credible source. Pity the same dude has to create multiple new accounts to post the similar story each time.

IMO - its more feasible that 3 separate people have faced immigration spiteful immigration officers over the past month.

Seems like you are coming around to what we've all been saying. I even posted on his latest thread that he thinks anyone challenging him on this forum is a troll that works for Thai immigration and he just confirmed it again....

Imagine being stupid enough to give personal identification material to dozens of elderly trolls on retirement visas and shills from Thai Immigration that hate you, and have nothing to do but trash talk strangers on the internet. no thanks!

In the other thread RED (who is very knowledgable about immigration issues) who was trying to help you posted and example of the 'rejection stamp'...  It does not show personal information..

Information could be redacted from a photo of any other stamp you have... and if you were truly serious about your situation you'd do anything to seek a resolution.

In the past, I have posted a photo of my driving licence with personal information blurred out - so concerns are flawed, unless you are somewhat computer illterate and do not know how to blank out info on a photo (using simple software such as paint).

You have been informed repeatedly that there is no personal information on these stamps...

To an IO your profile isn't that of a genuine tourist, hence her querying the reason for your being here again which is her job.

Did it ever occur to you that some elemnts in Thai immigration are doing anything they can to deny as many people as possible - like they often did before the pandemic. They were denying entry for all sorts on nonsense reasons, using laws that didn't exist.

Then they were humbled for a few years as the economy was crushed back to the stone age.

Now it's back to business as usual and the denying resumes.

Valid point... I'm sure there are very genuine examples of this out there...

However, when a poster has difficulty at immigration its becoming apparent that quite often then are less than forthcoming with the full facts and when pressed they become defensive.

The tale of the Op is certainly believable, although I believe he is mistaken in his belief that if he were visa exempt he'd have had less hassle... I suspect the opposite and it was the visa that tipped the balance in securing his entry.
