Seven Thai transgender dancers filed a lawsuit against the abbot of Sophon Dhammaram Temple in the Isaan province of Surin for insulting them by sharing their pictures and making fun of their appearance.

 

The abbot, Wittaya Sophonwanno, on March 11, shared a picture of seven transwomen performing a traditional Thai dance in angel costumes on his Facebook account. In the caption, he poked fun at them.

 

“If angels look like this, I am willing to live in hell forever…”

The post gained attention when one of the transgender dancers shared it on her Facebook, leading to complaints from her followers and the other six dancers in the picture. One of the dancers made her feelings known.

Thai Buddhism is not the real Buddhism...It is a mixture of all kind of religions. That is probably why monks act different than real Buddism monks.

I know Buddhism is a way of life, but here in Thailand it is a religion..I see people praying at Buddha images sometimes more than other religious people, but I am wondering if Thai people know it is a way of living....

Absolutely unacceptable comment from a monk. His job is promoting the temple and it's events, not insulting performers that are trying to help the temple.

I have no idea but should a monk even have a facebook account (or any social media account) ............

They have every right to be upset , 

Not only was it derogatory , it was mean spirited and unbecoming of a community and religious leader, 

who is supposed to be there for his Community. All of it!!

My wife has an uncle who was a buddhist monk, he was probably the most unbuddhist person I ever met, The only reason he was a monk. was because he was too lazy to do any work, and needed a place to live and eat free food. 

Fair enough. If that is what angels are like then I'll be happy to sit next to the Abbot in hell.🤔

So the 39th gender in the semi divines society is now taking the men of the cloth to the cleaners? 

Was it really necessary for him  to say that as a Chief Monk people look up to.

You clearly are unaware of the roots of Bhuddism and how its evolved in different ways. Also, it's not considered a religion.

Several years ago I seen the Dalai Llama being interviewed. His views were quite interesting. He answered all the questions put to him but then came the dreaded question. What's your thoughts on Thai Buddhism? He replied, next question please as I've got no intentions of answering that question.
