Cheap Charlies blocked my review

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I just went on Cheap Charlies Facebook site and was shocked how all of the food reviews were so positive without a single criticism (I mean it was sickening how fantastic the food apparently is, 5 stars)

Now this has not been my experience after I bought the membership card that gives all daily specials at 99 baht. While it could be considered great value, I don't think any of the food has ever tasted great to me (been 4 or 5 times)

Anyway, I thought I'd post that tomorrow's sirloin steak special was not very good when I had it a couple of weeks ago, but what else to expect for 99 baht and within 2 minutes I was banned from their Facebook page. Now I understand why all the posts are so positive, anything else is just banned 😆

There are food groups on facebook where you can post your review without a problem.

So as a fully paid up cheap charlie member until 31 Oct, I'm wondering what to do with my member card since they banned me from checking daily specials. Maybe I'll just drop it on a table at Nikkom Court tomorrow for some needy person to enjoy the absolutely fantastic 99 baht 5 star meals 😀

So the OP paid for a year membership card without checking their food before? Hard to believe

Not a year, it's valid 1 July to 31 Oct for 299 baht. I got my money back on first 3 specials, they just weren't very good. Best one was the 215 baht Sunday roast lamb for 99 baht and the worst was the 199 baht sirloin steak that I posted my pretty tame negative review about, luckily only 99 baht with card

You get what you pay for.

Facebook reviews are always subject to the whims of the page controller and are of very limited value IMHO, most businesses would remove negative reviews. I only ever review on Google. Some fake reviews there of course, but you can usually pick your way through.

I eat at CC Jomtien sometimes and agree its a bit mixed, although never tried steak. Actually the Thai food there is not bad - the lemongrass salad with raw prawns is very nice at ฿99.

Not always, unfortunately...

I never got the card because it has an expiration date. I don't like keeping track of dates.

Decent breakfast and good thai food IMO....generally good service and no real complaints here.  Nearly always full so they must be doing something right.

Cheap charlie story.  One night was eating there and the waitresses were all gathered around some guy sitting at the street front counter causing a big fuss...went on for a while then he finally left.

I asked the gal what it was about and she showed me a menu where you ordered noodles or something with choice of chicken pork or beef...guy was all pissed because he thought he should get chicken pork and beef......gals were not amused as he was a jerk on top of being an idiot.

I had planned to try that place a few times but every time I walk by (Pattaya & Jomtien) and see the sad sacks sitting there I always change my mind.

I really can't believe people nowadays,

A fantastic well run restaurant

He got fed up with negative comments so they get stopped now. One of mine was automatically stopped after i gave a negative review but it was later reinstated as it was a positive review.

I'd say generally it's ok but some 99 baht meals are child size which certainly aren't worth the full price.

Waitresses are moody though, a few good friendly ones, others have formed a waitress mafia

I'd say they are fed up with all the moaning, complaining foreigners.

The name CC, welcomes these type of customers.

Maybe but waitresses often become tip Nazis, not just there

Spot on......

It does what it says on the tin, foods cheap, service is OK, had some good grub and some bad, but then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder or the taste of said food is in the stomach of the hungry.

As I regard being on Facebook as the equivalent of having a STD, I would not know or care.

Simple really. I give a new restaurant a try every so often. If the food and service is good, I come back. If it is not, I don't.

If it was Free some Cheap Charlies would complain

  • Popular Post

Every time I walk past Cheap Charlies it’s full of lonely, old, miserable, penny-pinching, expat pensioners…kinda like what the average AN poster would look like!

Well they can't complain on the CC FB page as they just remove your post and block you

I used to be a card-holder (when the cost was either 99 or 199 baht) but I grew weary of asking for the vegetables to be better cooked, usually with the Sunday roast. They are not merely al-dente, I think they are simply dipped in hot water for seconds! I stopped going there (usually Jomtien) for many months, but I did return a few weeks ago. I had interactions with 3 different waitresses --- not one of them proffered a smile, nor even a thank you when I paid my bill --- just the normal wei. I think that it will be a long time before I venture to return.

Yes, you do "get what you pay for" BUT, I tried the steak way back, and found it so tough to be almost

inedible. If a restaurant cannot provide a reasonably acceptable (eatable) meal for the advertised price, then it should not be on the menu!

Although The Gold Monkey, on Thanon Chaiyaphruek increased their prices recently, the meals are still excellent value for money. The specials are priced at 149 baht (except the large Sunday roast which is still excellent value at 179 baht). No loyalty card is required and the meals are cooked to perfection. One particular day which I usually visit is Thursday, when the 149 baht pork steak offered is tender and delicious.

I highly recommend this bar/restaurant/live music venue.
