Thai Prime Minister Says She'll Choose Cabinet without Father’s Influence

Thailand's Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, has firmly stated that she will solely decide the make-up of her cabinet. This comes amid worries that her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, might interfere in her choices.

On August 18, Paetongtarn was formally chosen as Thailand's 31st Prime Minister after winning the majority vote in Parliament. Her coalition partners have since been quickly proposing their nominees for key cabinet positions.

The vetting process for candidates is predicted to be thorough, given the recent controversy linked to former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s appointment of Phichit Chuenban, who was later removed by the Constitutional Court due to his criminal history.

Paetongtarn, the 38-year-old Prime Minister of Thailand, pointed out the internal disagreement within the Palang Pracharath Party led by General Prawit Wongsuwan. She noted that the party is divided into factions, each proposing its own nominees. She stated, “Palang Pracharath will need to settle its internal disputes. We'll have to hold on and see how this develops.”

Prime Minister Paetongtarn is looking to quickly finalize her cabinet, due to pressing national issues that need swift action. The current schedule indicates that Paetongtarn will introduce her cabinet to His Majesty the King early next month, followed by an oath-taking ceremony.

She is expected to present a policy statement to Parliament on September 11, as per the constitution, which demands that a Prime Minister must present their policy plans within 15 days of their inauguration.

Her getting the job as PM is obviously only based on her competence and wisdom. It has nothing to do with her family name and father. No! Absolutely sure! 1000%!

  • I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

  • Of course she will.

Of course she will, she will pull each name out of a hat that her father put in, suffice to say, she will solely decide the make up of her cabinet, easy.

The fact that she has to make this statement means that everyone with a brain knew she wasn't calling the shots.

Do we really have to endure this lying Thaksin bull<deleted> on a daily basis ???

So I expect the neck brace and shoulder sling can be packed away then.... gleaming white formal military suits from now on!

'All of the people all of the time' comes to mind!

You have to be a good liar to be a politician.

What a load of rubbish. Dad is working those puppet strings flat out to ensure the country will move ahead. 5555

Thai democracy at its best.

They have absolutely no shame...they care nothing for the ordinary Thai and treat them with contempt just 2 weeks after her "amazing" rise to power

Thailand politics at it's most grubbiest ever!

Any shred of her questionable believeability just went out the window.

Vetting or no vetting, Papa has already decided, after a quick discussion with Papi she will see he was right in his choices.

This is despite many Thai media outlets having recent articles on how Taksin was selecting for ministerial posts.

As an aside, we all remember last year when Taksin was at death's door, having to spend 6 months in hospital, and now .....

Exactly.

How can she stand there with a straight face and blatantly insult the intelligence of people after what we have just witnessed.

She is supposed to be portraying the new modern thinking PT. Here's a tip; you are cannon fodder. Get out while you can!
