Social media users are fuming after a viral video revealed a woman driving a luxury car dumping rubbish into the sea from the Cholamarkwithi Bridge, a notable tourist landmark in Chonburi Province.

The video, captured by a dashboard camera and shared by the “Chonburi News” Facebook page, features a woman in her 40s or 50s stepping out of a black Mercedes onto the bridge. Ignoring a nearby bin, she casually throws a ball-sized garbage bag into the water. The post's caption noted the trash bin being just 20 meters away, critiquing her apparent love for her car but not the environment.

The footage has ignited public outrage, with many social media users condemning the woman's blatant disregard for environmental preservation. The car's license plate is clearly visible in the video, prompting calls for the authorities to take legal action, reported Pattaya Mail.

In response, local reporters visited the scene, confirming the location is near a dim sum restaurant on the bridge. They noted the proximity of a trash can, situated within 20 meters of where the woman discarded the garbage.

Mr. Ek, a local vendor selling drinks on the bridge, mentioned that this kind of littering is unfortunately common. He frequently sees both tourists and residents carelessly dumping rubbish into the sea, especially after social gatherings on the bridge.

“This kind of behaviour not only tarnishes our environment but also affects the marine ecosystem and ruins the seawater’s quality,” Mr. Ek commented.

Wittaya Khunpluem, President of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), urged both locals and tourists to adhere to proper waste disposal practices. He highlighted the significance of the Cholamarkwithi Bridge as both a tourist spot and a crucial traffic route.

In a bid to prevent such incidents, the PAO plans to coordinate with Chonburi Municipality to increase the number of trash disposal points. As for the offending driver, the Chonburi PAO will refer the matter to the Bang Sai Subdistrict Municipality for potential legal action under the Public Cleanliness Act.

  • This is normal behavior here in Thailand, look at every waterway, every vacant lot, trash is just thrown everywhere. It's one of the first things that horrified me when I first moved here back in 2016

  • My God! The netizens must learn their place. It´s common knowledge as she drives a Mercedes, she is entitled to throw her garbage wherever she wish.

  • There is no environmental awareness in this Country at all, looks to me like my Homecontry 50 years ago.

Chonburi Municipality to increase the number of trash disposal points.

A step in the right direction; now if you could just teach the locals to use them we might see some improvement in the massive landfill named Thailand.

That reminds me of my holiday in the Maldives many years ago.

On "my" island they collected all the trash.

And then they put the trash on a boat and shipped it to the neighbor island and they dumped it at the neighbor island - far away...

Can we please have the 'obligatory comment'....

....   "A Mercedes its not a luxury car, its a taxi in my country !!!"....    :giggle:

I can't believe a Thai hi-so in a Mercedes would disrespect Thailand and her environment in such a manner.....

This lady either wasn't Thai....

....or the 'trash' was not trash, but fish food and she was earning merit through kindness in feeding the fish...

... All just a misunderstanding...

A mercedes is not a luxury car in my country. It is a brand the drug dealers drive

I see Thais throwing stuff out the windows of their vehicles on a regular basis.

Horrible, lazy, self-centred and arrogant behaviour as per.

Out of sight out of mind as far as they are concerned here . Idiots !!

What else is she supposed to do with the trash in her car? There are no waste bins about are there?

20m is a long walk in the Thai heat - I'm surprise a hi-so exposed herself to the sun for as long as it took to throw the litter over the bridge, but a 20m walk - Imagine the change of skin shade she may have encountered had she risked that distance !!!!

A Mercedes is not a luxury car in my country, its what the hair-dressers drive on hire-purchase.

Any hi so knows an imported car is worth it for ones image .Even a mini as a starter car is same price as a top of the range suv

Better she throws it in the water than burns her garbage, at least the air is not affected.

With the heavy rains we have a 'temporary' lake nearby......and a small slip road leads down to it.

Three days later the slip road is knee deep in plastic rubbish....they don't give a flying.....but neither do most nations it seems.

Wow, prices must have increased recently.  Which MINI is the same price as, for example, a Rolls Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus or BMW X7?!

Same happens in Europe but then they just do it with sea containers full of trash, ditching it in Africa or often partly in the ocean.

Take it home with her and dump it in her own trash bin. It seems as though there was a trash bin 20 metres from where she dumped her trash.

How about reading the plate details off the posh car and summon the owner for clarification. If (s)he does not know, then just slap a very juicy fine onto the owner - will work wonders. Make sure that the whole exercise goes viral on social networks.

Naaaahhhh, me satumpid, cannot. Data protection, a Phooyai car and missing evidence (the garbage bag) as well as explicit laws (not from said bridge) are all a non-starter; how could I forget!

OK, if you insist,

"Mercedes Benz carscare commonly used as taxis in my country"

outraged, angry, horrified,  is there anything these netizens can't be ....

Thais don't care about the environment ....  they dump trash up dirt roads and anywhere up country ...   :drunk:

they need more educating ....  but the earth can't wait that long..
