A Russian tourist in Pattaya, named Mr. Ivanov, was fined for decorating his car with flashing Christmas lights, unaware that it was against the law in Thailand. On December 17th, around 6:01 PM, Pattaya police were conducting traffic checks when they noticed Mr. Ivanov's car, a grey Toyota Vios, adorned with colorful flashing lights on Sukhumvit Road.

The 25-year-old driver was stopped and informed by the police that such decorations are illegal. Mr. Ivanov admitted he didn't know about this rule and was fined 500 baht for breaking vehicle equipment regulations under the Motor Vehicle Act.

After being informed, Mr. Ivanov understood the regulation, paid the fine, and explained he decorated the car for Christmas and New Year, thinking it was acceptable as he saw others doing it in Bangkok.

Pattaya Police have since issued a warning to residents and tourists, advising against decorating vehicles with items like reindeer antlers or flashing lights, as this can confuse other drivers and obscure signals, leading to potential accidents. Such practices violate sections of the 1979 Motor Vehicle Act and can result in fines up to 2,000 baht, reported The Pattaya News.
