  • When you get very old you can re-watch stuff from a month ago and have no idea that you have seen it before.

When it says available from 5th November I assume that means last year? I watched it a few months ago on BBCiplayer and it's still on there today. I did enjoy it but think they stretched it out a bit over 6 episodes.

Yesterday I watched a movie called Hell or High Water and I enjoyed it. It was recommended by @spidermike007, earlier in this topic. I got it from TheRARBG.

Great film. Another near masterpiece also done by Sheridan is Wind River. Likely one of my favorite films in the past two decades, and I've seen it maybe eight times, and every single time it resonates.

Telefon, In Living Color series, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Changeling, Defiance, Midway.

Thanks @spidermike007 I download both Hell or High Water and Wind River after reading your recommendations in your earlier post. I'll probably watch Wind River in the next few days.

I also have watched 'Wind River' several times, great movie!!

Re-watching The Shield from 2002 - gritty American crime series - still enjoyable.

I watched the movie "Side Effects" starring Jude Law, Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones and although it took a bit of following/unravelling, IMO it was good.

Thanks for the heads up @Bacon1. I Like David Tennant and Dougray Scott, so I'll keep a look out for The Hack.

I just really hope I can get it with Subtitles (I watch whatever lands on WizzTV), love both actors but struggle to hear what they say at times 😔

If you have DL the movie and are playing it on VLC media player you can search for sub titles as follows:

VLC

View Tab

VL Sub

It will then give you a list of subs to choose from

Thank god it wasn't just another slasher movie, it had a decent script and great actors.

I remember a black & white movie called Hell AND High Water way back in 1954 when I was a Lad. Loved it. Richard Widmark was the main man.

The Guest on BBC iPlayer looks OK.

Funniest on You Tube are Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican and Gary Delaney. Real dirty humour.

I'm letting my Netflix subscription expire this month as most the new movies are cr@& ..... but before it ends I just rewatched The Equaliser.

I first saw it when it came out, and missed the details that made it a classic and thought it was just another revenge movie.  Some surprisingly subtle performances for an action movie.

Will watch the other Equaliser movies before my Netflix goes dark.

John moves his family to a rural town, befriends enigmatic neighbor Tommy hiding dark secrets.
John's fascination with Tommy grows as wife Fiona becomes suspicious, leading to dangerous unraveling of hidden truths and repressed anger.

Can recommend a new 8 episode TV series called Soviet Jeans. It grabbed me from the first episode. Subtitled obviously.

Pickings have been grim of late - summer season.

I have been plodding through The sketch artist, a French-Canadian series, totally unrealistic, barely watchable.

Atomic seems a bit far fetched

I just started Task, a new one on HBO - looks good.

I will give coldwater a look tonight. as Will mentioned,

Black Rabbit appears this week,

and a new series of Brassic at the end of the month.

Worst movie I’ve seen in a while — how it pulled a 7.7 is beyond me. I’d give it a flat 5. Total waste of 2 hours.

Also watched 'Weapons' last night. I give it a big thumbs up. I guess a big thing is whether you like the 'Rashomon effect' style of film. Notable examples include Reservoir Dogs, Snatch and Fargo.

Quote

The film style you're describing is called the Rashomon effect, where the same event is recounted from multiple, often conflicting, viewpoints to explore subjective truth and unreliable narration. While Rashomon popularized this technique, it's a narrative technique that uses multiple perspectives to tell a story, rather than the style of an anthology film which presents multiple unrelated stories

No, the big thing was whether I liked the 'No plot effect' style or not.   Different strokes.....

I'd agree that the 3 episodes are a bit of a disappointment.  But entertaining and easy to watch.

Its not strong investigative journalism into the sex trade in Bangkok and Pattaya.  Very little moralising or drawing of conclusions in that area.

The presenter comes across as a bit clueless and uninformed about thailand.  Perhaps as a narrative technique.  She almost exclusively interviews brits under 30 on holiday and semi-annoying 'influencers'.  Wellness retreat run by an australian, real estate agent who could be american by accent, a gogo dancer aged about 40.  Very few thai people.

The brits become coy and shy when asked about sex. Don't finish sentences.

But mainly focusses on bad luck ! Visits accident departments at hospitals, jails, studies numbers of deaths in phuket !  Looks for corruption, but weakly.

She probably concluded thailand is a risky and dangerous place and she'd better stay in UK.

I enjoyed it though as its about where many of us live !

My (Thai) wife refuses to watch it because she has read about it in Thai sources and declares  that it is  very "lo-so"....

I also remember that movie which I thought was good. Can't recall RW ever making a bad movie.

Tehran season 3, was really looking forward to this one but the english subs (I use an iptv service) are so bad that it becomes unwatchable for me  And with no date for its release to Western markets (apparently its only been released in Israel), I fear a long wait…

Love the music though
