Then they ask you what you want in it? That doesn't actually make sense. Good on her for standing up for herself. 6 offcials who can't speak English enforcing payment of a sandwich? All the constant media rubbish of "smart zones" and flower opportunities, and you have no tourist police in the airport?? Airport vendors need some scrutiny every now and then. Everyone in there is taking the piss. Bottled water in phuket international is minimum 100-120 baht. In domestic it is normally 30. The pharmacy there is selling simple little things like a sachet of gaviscon only stuck together in packs of 10 for over 200 baht. "I just need one". "No mister cannot". How about we deal with what actually occurred first? The woman did not order "3 basic sandwiches". She ordered the equivalent of 6 foot long sandwiches. Drinks and cookies were extra. The woman has misrepresented the event as only ordering 3 sandwiches, and in the course of being an out of control eater, she has blamed the franchise for her own gluttony. There is always a premium to be paid at an airport location. That is the reality. I used this franchise last year and the price was not unreasonable. The takeaway is to look at the posted price first, and Subway has its price posted, and to not junket travel if you are not prepared for the expense. My takeaway is that she is an irresponsible ignorant woman who should just stick to her greasy chips and blood pudding when she gets home. 1 1 2

But without mustard, onions and relish, they're just not appealing. Gotta have something to cover up the flavor of ground up animal "parts". 1 1

DonniePeverley Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Firstly prices in Thai airports are a complete rip off. Needs addressing. Secondly, you may well signs of the price of a sandwich, you are then for some reason what you would like on the sandwich. So she may well have figured ill get extra cheese, extra chicken - without maybe realising that would be extra. Like i say, sometimes people do get confused with that, and with language in Thailand i am sure it wasn't made clear. Both are too blame here. The company for rip off fees, and price gouging on extra toppings without being clear. And the women who should have been more aware, and not exactly upfront on the extras she ordered. 1

Arriving early at our gate we can snack at our convenience on a variety of things like jerked meats, mixed nuts and even home prepared sandwiches. Sandwiches are refrigerated and put in a carry on bag just before we leave home. On some flights, JAL even provides a refrigerated snack in a durable plastic bag an hour before landing that can be consumed on board or eaten in the terminal. It's more about convenience than paying for airport food. Sad. Sometimes you want a hot cooked meal, or be sponteneous on holiday to have something cooked for you. Who makes themselves sandwiches on holiday to say a few dollars?

Your sympathetic stance requires that we abandon common sense and our own personal experience at Subway. The woman was engaged in gluttony, the kind we see at the cheap buffets. except, here there was a posted price to pay. She was literally ordering multiple sandwiches with her additional toppings. And to be honest, I have never seen anyone order like that ever. I don't even take cheese on my sandwich. The footlongs are packed with the ingredients so, ordering 2-3-4X the ingredients is truly excessive and it should be expected that there will be a cost reflective of that. 1 1

Although when you order a Subway baguette , they doi ask you what you want in the sandwich, about 9 different ingredients which are free . She may not have realised that the chicken and cheese is an extra cost . But she expected to get 3000 Baht's worth of food for 500 Baht , she was pigging out, as we say in the UK . I bet she goes into Sizzler and just orders the free salad bar and some tap water and spends all afternoon there

Who makes themselves sandwiches on holiday to say a few dollars? Sad, if you think everyone wants to eat airport food. Besides not all of it is healthy either. I am the cook both here at home and in Thailand where we visit once or twice a year. It so happens my Thai girlfriend enjoys my cooking (she does not cook) and requests for me to make sandwiches with no processed meats. Ever been to HNL. Not much to offer with a lot of fast foods. That is where we eat our sandwiches on the layover to Japan. And HNL is NOT air conditioned so not having a hot meal is fine for us. Speaking of hot foods, we were in Yosemite in late November and stopped at a small restaurant for a bowl of hot soup. A can of Campbell's vegetable soup was opened and heated up and served to us. Yes, it's sad if you think it is all about saving money. As I mentioned, it more about convenience.

After looking at her social media accounts and seeing some dodgy stuff, this is highly likely. She has also already made 3 tiktoks on what she says happened, clearly trying to capitalize on the publicity she and her story is getting. Phuket Airport also posted a copy of the internal receipt for her order and I'm not sure what the Subway employees would gain from inflating her order cost. 1

I looked at Subway offers but I can't find any of these "meal deals" that include any of these extras at all. So to conclude: 1. All food outlets are ridiculously expensive, especially in international departures areas. 2. The complainant is either as thick as <deleted>, or full of it, or both.
scorecard Posted January 11 Posted January 11 5 hours ago, Mr Meeseeks said: They are probably used to tourists just bending over and taking it raw, rather than complaining and pointing out it is a rip-off (which it is). Don't give me the high rents excuse, the airport was built with taxpayer's money and the AOT is 70% government owned. A good comparison would be with the airport in KL, Malaysia, where prices of food vendors are much in line with those in the city centre. Food prices at Thai airports are a rip-off, end of. And food at Changi airport is also very reasonably priced.

Briggsy Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Is this a good example of a "Karen"? I never truly grasped what a "Karen" was other than a derogatory term for a woman, particularly one that specialised in complaining.
Burma Bill Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Most of the food and drink outlets at BKK and DMK are expensive, however at DMK, there is a halal outlet tucked away in a waiting area for gates where its sandwiches were around 80 baht compared to others at 100 - 125 baht. I have seen the staff freshly preparing them. By the way, I am not a Muslim but someone who appreciates value for money. 1

Who posts on a forum whilst knowing nothing at all? She knew the price. 533 baht for a meal deal each, plus one extra meat. They added the other stuff on themselves and would not give her a receipt. Quote I ordered 3 x footlong with 1 extra meat 3 drinks and 3 cookies so 3 meal deals they added extra on themselves as they would not give me the receipt
