Supreme Court Petitioned to Return Thaksin to Jail Amid Allegations

In a dramatic turn of events, former Democrat MP Charnchai Issarasenarak has officially petitioned the Supreme Court to consider sending Thaksin Shinawatra back to prison. Efforts are also sought to investigate alleged irregularities in his release facilitated by the Corrections Department.

The petition, submitted today, urges the Supreme Court to review the circumstances under which Thaksin was granted effectively preferential treatment, avoiding imprisonment upon his return from a 17-year self-imposed exile in 2023.

The former Thai Prime Minister, and influential political figure, had been sentenced to a curtailed one-year imprisonment by the Supreme Court due to charges of power abuse during his tenure in office.

Critics argue that Thaksin, whose daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the current Prime Minister, was allowed to serve his sentence under questionable conditions.

Allegedly, he was granted a six-month hospital stay at Police Hospital instead of fulfilling his sentence in Bangkok Remand Prison. This arrangement reportedly exploited legal ambiguities to extend undue privileges, potentially undermining the judiciary’s authority.

Charnchai contends that the Corrections Department’s actions, in conjunction with certain executive officers, amounted to government misconduct by facilitating Thaksin’s avoidance of jail through purported health concerns.

Upon supposed medical necessity, Thaksin’s stay at the hospital reportedly coincided with his release on parole, sanctioned by Justice Minister and Prachachart leader Thavi Sodsong last year.

The petition raises significant questions about the integrity and consistency of the legal system in enforcing judicial decisions, especially those concerning high-profile political figures. The case underscores ongoing tensions between branches of government and the continued scrutiny of Thailand's political landscape.

The Supreme Court judges, specifically tasked with overseeing criminal cases involving political figures, now face a pivotal decision in acting upon Charnchai’s petition.

Whether the court will choose to reinstate Thaksin’s prison sentence or dismiss the appeal remains to be seen, as the matter highlights broader concerns over equality and justice within the Thai legal framework.

This unfolding story captures the complexities entwining politics and law in Thailand, as observers keenly watch for the Supreme Court’s response and the potential implications for Thaksin and the country's political order, reported Thai Newsroom.

The system should be easy. Jail is jail and hospital is hospital. If any inmate needs a week in hospital, fine. Then add a week to the time he has to stay in jail. Problem solved.

How is 'Jumping Bail', after sentencing, awaiting trial for his other serious 20 or so legitimate charges, buying fake Citizenship and passports from Nicaragua and Montenegro, after his Thai Passport was cancelled to fly around the world, wheeling and dealing, while warrants International and local were put out, have the Audacity to pat himself on the back, while schmoozing with all of the global crooks who use Dubai as a base, then say he was only on a 'self-imposed exile'?? All the while not too secretly manipulating, controlling and plotting his return when enough was spent and put into secret accounts to clear the way, with his sycophant family & pions and ass kissers?

In addition to the original charges for which he jumped bail, what about the act of jumping bail and evading justice all this time ???? A common folk would have served additional time for jumping bail in addition to the original sentence… 🤣🤣 so sad to see a 2 tier justice system .. is there no more integrity in the Thai bar n bench…..? In any event, if this is the legal precedent, then why should anyone stop rice peddler Yingluck as well as the Red Bull speedster from doing the same ? Hmmm🤣🤣

Interesting to see if whether his "de facto credentials" will include a "de facto Boss of the Supreme Court"...

Back to jail? Hmmm? The aircon room at the prison he spent 50 odd minutes in waiting for the chopper or the luxury suite in the police hospital? Answer is neither.

If it ever looked like the supreme court would vote against him, he would be given a tip-off so he could slip out the back door back to Dubai...

Totally agree.  Maybe these Petitions should be accompanied by a 250,000 Bt Deposit. If the Petition fails, the deposit then goes to charity. That "might" stop some of the glory seekers.

I am sure there are enough crimes which could be discovered - if anybody would want to find them.

First of all he’s not gonna spend one day in jail if he sees that it may come to that he’ll just get on his jet and fly back to Dubai him jumping Val and all that stuff absolutely there was no charge against him for that anybody else I’ve been in jail for that BRAD around the world he’s done everything as if he’s a totally free guy pretty much like the Red Bull kid in Thailand it’s just about money if you have money you don’t have to worry about anything TIT

The integrity and consistency of the legal system,  that's laughable,  don't let the truth get in the way of a story, integrity ZERO, consistency 100% there is nothing that cant be bought, changed, manipulated, altered, not 1 day in jail, a nice hospital stay for someone who was apparently so sick, such an amazing recovery,  abuse of power as a PM gets you a hospital stay because jail was too stressful,

Clear the runway Tony's miracle elixir works 🤔

Dear MP's

Instead of bickering, in-fighting , and trying to get your own noses into the trough, PLEASE sort out the mess that you have all put Thailand in to.

PS and stop interfering with the BOT who are better and more qualified at looking after Thailand's money than you are.

so many things here are just cruel jokes of the rich... justice, education, road safety, air quality, food quality...

With Thaksin being out it confirms how corrupt Thai society really is from the very top to the lowest BiB

"Return"...when was he ever "in"

I thought he had a "Stay out of jail" card.  The kind that even the Supreme Court can't question...

The picture will include a wheelchair, neck brace, and possibly some form of paralysis.

And was the general (still alive) who overthrew the Thaksin government in a military coup in 2006 ever prosecuted?

More big fat brown envelopes being filled as we speak

It's the same as always... Considering imprisoning him again is intended to suggest that the courts work independently, democratically, critically and make no distinction between rich and poor. After that, everything stays as it is! "... But of course we have examined everything carefully and critically."... Pure eyewash!... It's slowly becoming boring!
