Are there actually any public toilets in Pattaya? I see toilets by bars that are privately owned and most charge an entrance fee. The toilets beside immigration appear to be privately owned and charge a fee. Friendship have toilets that are free but not "public". Malls have toilets but not "public". So once again can anyone tell me if there are public toilets, run and maintained by the local authorities. Personally I,partly, rate premises on the cleanliness and niceness of their lavatories Pattaya does not come high on this list

Public toilets who would clean them? They would get constant FB posts with photos of the filth, urine, vomit, and feces scattered on the floor.

I can remember my first visit to Phuket many, many years ago. Needing a toilet and not finding one, I asked in a shop if there were any public toilets nearby. Just go into the nearest hotel and use theirs, was the reply. Its what I do to this day whenever I visit the island, although that is not so often now. Never been challenged, so I assume it is still acceptable.

A big fuss being made about tourists/farangs peeing when they get taken short. The obvious answer would be more  public toilets that are well placed and publicised in public areas in Phuket (as well as other tourist resorts in Thailand).

 

But that is no excuse for peeing against someone's car  - presumably well in the public eye. If you get taken short - find a back street or even the sea - after all fishes pee and s**t in it! And from what I've heard, there is plenty of raw sewage being dumped there anyway!

 

As an aside, which has already been mentioned already - how many times do you see Thais taking a leak at the side of the road without a care in the world , but you never see that plastered all over the pages of the media? Maybe tourists/farangs think that that is one of the local customs that they are following suit! 🙂

No that is work and that is a word that Thais don't like at all....Better hire Burmese for it... because the Thai labour law will make an exception for this kind of work.

Peeing in the sea happened too and teh netizens were very upset and the peeing people were fined... This is Thailand, lack of common sense and greed

Same thing, had meal at coffee club in Patong and asked for toilet and they said use nearby hotel and reception never blinked an eye so was a little surprised, just about every bar has a free toilet so there is really no excuse, plus large shopping centres have free toilets.

Same here in Patts....it is frustrating trying to find a bathroom and God help you if you want to do #2.

Come to my soi in Ekamai, Bangkok. Every morning 2 guys walk out of their house, jump on a motorcycle, drive 30 metres, pee on the wall and drive home again.

# men walk out of their house and pee on the wall.

 

All day long people stop and pee on the wall (and I have seen defaction once).

 

Taxi drivers throw their bottles of urine in the bushes. The whole area is rotten with stale pee.

 

It's easy to pick on the foreigners, but many Thais are much worse.

Yeah, I would be moving if that was anywhere near my house, not going to allow my 8 yr old daughter grow up with that around. I guess I like being inside a guarded community, with workers cleaning all the time.

It is not unusual to see male public urinals visible from an open entrance by whomever walks past, including females heading to their toilet area.

 

Everything on display - therefore this is more about the hygiene aspect and odour than the visuals.
