Luckily with today's Laser technology there is not a single tattoo that can not be removed. But apparently it is much more expensive and painful to have them removed than putting them, and you might need several treatments before its totally gone. A friend of mine had one removed after he divorced his wife. The new girlfriend didn't like to se his ex wife name on his chest all the time.

Something like below, often a lot uglier, seems to be pretty common these day with the Nana girls.

I wonder how much laser treatment would be necessary to remove something like that. And how would it look after that treatment?

I agree it is so ugly, and those probably would need 10 treatments, every treatment fade the tattoo a little bit, and apparently does not any harm to the skin

I went to get a tattoo when I was 22, I asked for a tiger and asked if it will still look like a tiger when I am 50. The tattoo artist said no, it will probably look like a poodle, so I passed.

Folks are free to have an opinion about tatts or fitness. In fact, it is not possible to NOT have an opinion...whether about tatts or pink hair or Chang wifebeaters or the architecture of a new building. Many state their opinion that they like tatts, while others---like me, as noted in my original post---think nobody looks better with a tatt and most bearing them look downright silly. That I think tatts look like crap means nothing to those who find them fetching. Those who might argue I should keep my opinion to myself fail to realize how ironic that is on a Forum, the purpose of which is to state opinions......about politics or circumcision or different beers or an expanded list of pronouns or whether it's wise to date a bargirl or if one should or shouldn't get vaxxed. Perhaps the site should provide a safe space and coloring books to those gentle snowflakes offended by an opinion to which they take exception.

 

When something was a fringe practice for thousands of years, and then suddenly became mainstream, that screams FAD. When TV shows are made about it, with competitions leading to "voting off", similar to cooking shows or drag queen performances or seeking a job with a former Game Show host turned President, it screams FAD. When a celebrity known for his heavy use of ink decides to go through the pain of burning it all off, that suggests endgame. When tatt removal parlors begin to emerge in different parts of Bangkok, that, too, suggests endgame. When I get SPAM that offers me a chance to get rid of the tatts I don't have, that also suggests endgame. The tide seems to be changing. Cocktail party chat or beer bar chat might soon shift from showing off one's latest ink to regaling others with how much it hurt to burn the stuff off.  Watch. I think it's coming. My Pete Davidson example is the canary in the coal mine. The truly trendy will try to be one of the First Removers.

 

That is my opinion, too. I could well be wrong and might end up being the last holdout on the planet with unadorned skin, like a character in the movie "The Body Snatchers", yet to be assimilated by invading aliens. Won't I then be the freak!

 

There is an oft tossed-around term to describe people who latch on to current trends and adopt something they never considered back before the fad: sheeple. Everybody knew tatts existed 20, 30, 50 years ago, but few chose to get them. Suddenly half the people decided they had to be a part of something they never previously considered. That is a fad, and the adopters could be reasonably called "sheeple". I don't like that term, and much prefer "lemmings", especially since just as lemmings suffer the consequences of their 'follow the crowd' behavior, studies showing ink can cause some to develop autoimmune diseases and those with colored ink can develop cancer, says ink might have a negative cost.

 

Those who joined the crowd, enjoy! Just be honest about your lack of individuality and your need to 'fit in'. We all choose the way we either wish to stand out or fit in. Even if I absolutely loved mullets or powdered wigs, I wouldn't wear either, so I admit to lacking total individuality. I saw tatts as a young kid, as my grand dad had an anchor on his arm he got on a port call during the war. Had I found such things appealing, I could have added one, too, but didn't. Tatts weren't yet a fad. Few others added them at that time either. Then the fad hit, and in my view, society is a lot less aesthetically pleasing because of it. Still, those who did or want to join the crowd are welcome to knock themselves silly. As they say in Thailand, up to you.

 

Now back to "other opinions" on this vehicle whose purpose is to state opinions.

Maybe tats are why the Greenwich CT boys are always looked down upon by the Darien CT boys.

Except pain never enters my mind. I wouldn't do it because it just looks infantile and disgusting. Looks like a bird ate raspberries and then barfed on their arm or leg.

 

It's also my mind and I have a good cringe and then a laugh inside my mind looking at some of these folks and trying to guess why they think it looks so cool. Same as obese people pretending they can be both fat and healthy and that plus size women are beautiful too. But again, it's their body but I don't have to buy into their self-deception.

 

It's their right to do it and my right to be entertained by it, especially since I care not at all whether it helps or hurts them. 

 

Most of them seem desperate to prove something though and just want the attention it brings.

 

The faded, stretched, and sagging ones on the old folks are especially laughable and I even feel a short twitch of sympathy for them. I always wonder if they are still proud of themselves for getting them.

 

The cartoons I watched as a kid portrayed Africans wearing grass skirts with curly hair and bones in their noses. Tats still amuse me the same way. Some obscure native tradition.

 

The world is full of strange folks and these are just a subset, no reason to think of them as any more or less than that. To say it's popular and growing is stretching the truth a bit though.

Ive had one for about 15 years and want another two. The only reason I've not got them is the price. Based on the cost of living here, they should really only be about 10k each. That's a pretty good amount for one day if you ask me, but I'm not paying 3k per hour.

Maybe not.   If like me, who at the age of 20, could go three days without shaving, in Army Basic Training, without being told by a drill sargent to shave dry out in the field!  In advanced training back then, I could go four days without shaving, the inspections being less intense.   

 

Even today, it would take me four days to grow hair on my face, the same length as some do in one day.   

In Basic Training, there was one guy that was made to dry shave his face every morning between 10 and 11 am, with what looked like a 1 or 2 day old beard, sometimes having to shave in the afternoon too, even though he claimed he shaved that morning.   After a week of this, his drill sargent showed up in the shower room to watch him shave and then checked him out at 10 am.   Afterwards he was still required to shave in the morning and afternoon, but was allowed to use water when shaving!
