No, it's real.  Getting ready to pay online in March.  Fortunately I don't bring 100% of my money into Thailand and I manage to get by on a modest amount, ahem.

Compared to what it would cost me for a similar lifestyle back in the Old Country with their wagons and ponys and glittery lifestyle of homeless people doing fen on a sidewalk. 🤑

I have my 800K in the bank. I don't use agents. Next.

I don't use agents but IF it's really true that two agents have broadcast there is a freeze, it might (unfortunately) be more than a rumor.

Links to the pages and also a REASON for a freeze if it's real would be good.

Or it could just as easily be a change in management at Chonburi Immigration. Or something that those two particular agencies do/did.

There is also a story in Pattaya mail on the subject. Not really much actual information but they connect it to the ongoing focus on mule accounts.

I won't be paying any tax, as I have about 5-6 years' worth of pre-2024 savings to draw on.

 

You have evidence Immigration is asking for proof of tax payments when foreigners renew their visas?

You could always just do the renewal legally. Can't really complain about changes if you are doing it the illegal cheap-Charlie way... you are at the mercy of the scamming agents and bent immigration officers.

It would be impossible to offer evidence for a policy that might be implemented at any time in the future, upon edict. 

That's the way dictatorships work.

 

Just advising that all law abiding residents of Thailand won't have any problem proving proof of tax payments. 😉
