In a dramatic incident outside Patong Hospital in Phuket, Thai police have apprehended three British men in connection with a hit-and-run that escalated into an attempted stabbing.

The altercation began when a Thai motorcyclist collided with a white Ford Raptor pickup, with registration plate กฉ 1, driven by the foreign nationals. The driver attempted to stab the motorcyclist before all three fled the scene.

After tracking down the suspects, all 26-year-old British nationals, police charged them under two sections of Thai criminal law.

These charges include reckless driving causing injury and property damage, which carries penalties of up to one month in prison or a 10,000 baht fine, and carrying a weapon in a public space, punishable by a 100 baht fine.

The incident has sparked outrage among Thai netizens, who have criticised the perceived leniency of the charges, arguing for harsher consequences such as deportation and entry bans to prevent future offences.

They assert that merely fining offenders allows them to evade meaningful punishment and potentially repeat their criminal behaviour.

Amidst growing pressure, there is an increasing call for authorities to revoke the men's driving licences and take a firmer stance against foreign nationals engaging in reckless and harmful conduct.

As the story develops, the public's concern over effective law enforcement continues to mount, reported The Thaiger.

Nationality isn't defined by skin color. It's defined by the passport.

Well spotted. Now we know why most Thai criminals are repeat offenders.

Attempted stabbing followed by fleeing the scene of an accident, and the consequences are barely a slap on the wrist? If this is realistic, then it's no wonder people are upset.

So attempting to or threatening to stab someone is nothing nowadays ?? 😳

Who puts a #1 number plate on a pick up , seems if it's theirs they have too much money to waste and would be worth looking into where it's coming from with their behaviour carrying a knife to threaten people.

Deportation and a lifetime ban from Thailand would soon sort that problem out

The Thai police and authories seem more interested in fines money 💰

Than actual deterrents

Tourists carrying out these acts should be jailed and deported

End of

Not condoning their actions but people can only be prosecuted under the current laws, if the laws aren't considered serious enough by thai netizens only they have voting rights during elections to get things changed, the problem is these people want foreigners to be punished more severely than locals committing the same offences, reckless driving happens in every street of every province on a daily basis if they jailed every one who is guilty 75% of the population would be behind bars. Knife offence seems bit lenient but again if that's the thai law it's the thai people that need to change it.

Give them a big fine, then give them their passports back as they board their flight back to Manchester.

Phuket really needs to go zero tolerance, kick the scumbags out, right away.

Unfortunately, not all Brits are "light skinned"  these days!

"Attempted stabbing" ? ....or just "carrying a knife" ? ,,,and when/ what action turns it into a "weapon". So many vagaries regarding the reporting and the Thai laws and their "enforcement"

Don't need to.... statistics show that the likelihood is very very very very high

So, carrying a weapon in public is less harmful to the public good than not wearing a helmet under the law?

Ive just read how a perceived lack of active policing and softness on criminals has dramatically reduced tourism by Chinese to Thailand. This is a chance for Thai authorities to show the World that they are not weak. Throw the book at these pigs. Show these louts that people  cannot travel the world expecting to threaten people others  with knives !

Which "statistics" are they that you have access to, can you share the source?
