Any real skin clinics in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Daughter has developed a rash on her legs.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital did a battery of allergy tests, all negative.

Every google search for a "skin clinic" turns up only beauty salons!

I'm unable to find a "real" skin clinic anywhere in Thailand, that deals with actual skin problems, such as rashes!

Normal examination of bedding etc., reveals no possible causes such as bedbugs/fleas/ticks/mites etc.

Anybody know of an actual SKIN CLINIC that deals with skin problems, not beautification, in Thailand?

Appreciate the help!

A dermatologist would probably be your best bet.....have a look online to see if there is one near you.

Can't talk about Pattaya.  But most dermatologist in Thailand are oriented to cosmetology.  Dr Vachiraporn Sujaritwanichpong at RAM hospital Chiang Mai is oriented toward skin diseases of light-skinned Europeans.  You'll need to find a dermatologist like Dr Vachiraporn in your area.  You might have better luck in a major private hospital in Bangkok.

And you need to do a search on Dermatology, not "skin clinic."

Agree 100% - She cured my long time skin condition, when many dermatologists in Australia had no idea.  She has a private clinic and if you can see her there, rather than at RAM, you will save a lot - especially on the medications and tests.

Thank you all for the help!

Stupid me, should have googled dermatology instead of skin clinic LOL!

Well so far, Dr. Vachiraporn Sujaritwanichpong seems to be THE dermatologist in Thailand for skin conditions, so I guess we're off to Chiang Mai tomorrow!

And thank you for the advice of seeing her at her private clinic to save some money, much appreciated!

If anybody is interested, this seems to be her clinic, and thanks again all!

She was nice, but pushed for me to stick with steroid creams and suggested biologic injections—which may or may not work and start at around $1,000 a month. Cost isn't the issue, but the bigger concern is that she claimed the immune-suppressing injections have no side effects. That’s in contrast to a board member’s experience at Bumrungrad in Bangkok, where they put him on a diet and helped him manage his condition through nutrition, even setting him up with a dietitian. I haven’t tried that approach yet, but it’s something to keep in mind.

I've heard this somewhere before, about noodles in Thailand (especially the cheap packets) causing skin rashes, my daughter eats a lot of those, as she is in Uni staying alone, thank you for reminding me about it, I'll try and get her to change her diet immediately!

Institute of Dermatology

Near Victory Monument in Bangkok,  google it

They have an after-hours clinic,  after 17.00 (better come 30 min earlier,  walk-in accepted )

Cheap and good

Dr Parichart,  St Louis Hospital, BTS St Louis

esp. for female patients,  male patients are usually directed to a male dermatologist

a real skin doctor,  not a beauty quack

I was very disappointed in the dermatologists ....two different ones... i saw in Pattaya.  They seemed to have no clue and wanted to push a lot of absurd ridicoulous treatments medications for relative simple problem.  Went back to USA where a real dermatologist took care of problem professionally with no bs no drama etc.  And overall the cost of treatment was actually less than the pattaya bunch was suggesting.

I have overall been happy with docs in Thailand but sadly the dermatologist that i saw i found to be sorely lacking.

I would also recommend St Louis hospital as well. Possibly Rama 9 hospital.

The institute above looks promising

Stay clear of beauty Skincare clinics, but if you want one of these I'd recommend Patcha (Sutthisan) or Aura (DinDaeng). Aura may be a bit of high pressure sell. There are also a few big clinics in Pohan Yotin.

Derms in clinics are basically just Botox injectors and thread lift mechanics.

I think steroid cream is the ticket. Try washing the area with Head Shoulders shampoo

Try Dr Nicha at MedPark Hospital in Bangkok, she is US-trained and excellent.

I didn't know that.  I have a running 6 month skin screening with her.  Any idea where her private practice is located?
Nevermind, I found her.  She operates from 5 to 8 PM M-Th & Sat 9 - 12.  Hard working lady!

You're probably going to have to travel to BKK or CM to find a good dermatologist.

That's just it. Dermatologists in Thailand don't seem to be trained to diagnose skin diseases that affect pasty white folk from UK/EU ancestry.  Most seemed to be trained to put vain Thai women under the knife to "Make More Beautiful" which more often then not makes them look like they have had cosmetic surgery that turned out so-so. I bet it's a money maker though.

I was misdiagnosed by my first dermatologist prior to being referred to Dr. Vachiraporn. That cost me some surgery that in my opinion never should have happened in the first place and caused some disfigurement - and I'm still p*ssed off about that, but this ain't the US and malpractice ain't a thing.  Your more likely to be arrested for defamation. Anyway, I'm a guy and I'm not vain. Scars on guys ain't a big thing.
Dr Vachiraporn is knowledgeable, excellent English, she'll hang out and answer all of your questions, and her tight booking schedule sort of shows that she is in high demand. So, yeah, not all dermatologists in Thailand have the same skill level with treating skin diseases of those from temperate climates.

Be picky when it comes to dermatologists in Thailand. Find expats who are happy with their dermatologist and get a referral.

Stand alone skin clinics are almost always cosmetic in focus.

Dermatologists in the outpatient skin clinics at hospitsls are s mix if cosmetic & skin disease in focus. The fotmer more numeroys than the latter but most large hospitals will have st least 1 dermatoligist focused on skin diseases.

In addition some hodpitals have specialized pefiatric dermatologists which may be more appropriate if OP's daughter is young.

Are you able to allude to what some of the treatment options were? I'm guessing it wasn’t anything out there like biologic injections or immunosuppressants from some eccentric Thai doctor—did they suggest managing it through diet?

(quote from Connda above}

How true this quote is. I have used skin clinic/hospitals in BKK and Pattaya and many of the doctors main "patients" are deluded dissatified ones who have money to pay for their dreams(or is it delusions) simply to get unnecessary treatment at a high price.

They clog up the system for those of us who actually need a proper skin doctor hence need to be wary.

After visiting many places i have found there are some proper dermatologists at Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK.

Need to research and talk to the dept etc before getting a proper skin doctor.

It was a few simple sun small pre cancercous spots that are normally frozen off in a matter of minutes with liquid nitrogen...i went to one of the major hospitals dermatology as well as a clinic...neither one seemed willing or able to freeze a few spots off but wanted to use lasers etc at a very inflated price...usa dermatologist did it in about five minutes over and done.  I had had it done before in usa and knew it was not a big deal worked well and no problems at all...cost me $40 for dermatologist in pattaya to tell me they wanted $200 to do laser...no thanks..

Yes, this place in Hua Hin. Locals and expats swear by it, including myself. Dr. Niwat Skin Clinic

Dr, Vachiraporn is great, but very difficult now to get an appt.  Last I checked it was a 2 week wait.  Maybe try a walkin.

I found this guy in Hua Hin he is very good. Dr. Siwarat Chotinukul at BHHH.

Both are not surgeons but are great for freezing spots, biopsies, skin problems, etc.

I've also used Dr. Vachiraporn (basically just to give me an annual scan; I have a lot of weird mole patterns, and she makes sure nothing's cancerous). However, as someone else commented, she's busy and has a queue; I had to wait a few weeks, at least via Chiang Mai Ram (at her private practice she may have more time).

I booked with Dr Amy (Vachiraporn Sujaritwanichpong) at Chiang Mai Ram Skin Clinic yesterday and the first available appointment is 8th September.

Although she had ONE appointment slot (cancellation) this coming Friday 8th Aug in the morning which I couldn't make.

She will be absent for a 2 week holiday during the last 2 weeks in August.

I have to retract this post, or at least put some caveats:

IoD: no more walk-ins. Get a queue number at 9 or 10a.m., come back at 16.30. Not very convenient,  to say the least.

And I would rather go somewhere else, not St Louis anymore.

However: most hospitals do have real dermatologists (just ignore those 90% who specialize in "beauty", "aesthetics", "cosmetics" blablabla).

But they usually come only once or twice a week. This can be extremely inconvenient (it may mean a wait of several weeks for the next appointment,  and for any acute problem it's useless).

Bumrungrad still has some "real" dermatologists who work every day, eg Dr Chittaphon (also at Phyathai 2, twice a week). Prices are Bumrungrad prices.

Can anybody recommend another one?

Samitivej has some good ones but prices not much less than Bumrungrad.

Ones I have dealt with are:

https://www.samitivejhospitals.com/doctor/detail/paritas-sukriket

https://www.samitivejhospitals.com/doctor/detail/patcharahatai-kraisak

https://www.samitivejhospitals.com/doctor/detail/nopadon-noppakun

also looks possible but I have never met him

Would help to know type of problem.

Thx.

Dr Paritas and Dr Nopadon were on my to-try list (btw Dr Nopadon also works at Bumrungrad, BNH and Christian Hospital - but everywhere only once or twice a week)

I am not asking about a specific problem.  Skin problems pop up from time to time (eg skin feels unusual bumpy/itchy/swollen/rough at a place I cannot see myself; or distinguishing between fungus and eczema; or genital skin lesions that might be an STD or just a pimple/insect bite/paederus) and it would be nice to know where to go.
