Retirement Visa early renewal . (Pattaya Immigration)

Featured Replies

Hi  All  !   This question is related to Pattaya immigration only .... I have  checked online and it states you can renew your retirement visa up to 45 days before in expires .. "   Thai retirement visa in Pattaya (or other immigration offices) within 45 days of its expiry date." ..Can anyone confirm this is a fact and Not just hear say or internet AI/bar stool waffle? ..

Thanks in advance .

Agents about 8k now just for handholding? 1900 DIY no handholding, easy

Can only confirm 30 days.

However I think if trying over 30 days to 45 bring in evidence of need such as travel plans and would be ok.

If using an agent then most can do it up to 90 days in advance.

Yes, lots of waffle.

A few months prior to expiry, using an agent, just show them your funds (bank book), a few thousand baht for the agency, a trip to immigration for photo, all sorted.

If not using an agent (I don't understand why people wouldn't) a month before expiry.

At Jomtien up to 30 days prior to expiry.

At few offices eg CW, CM, Phuket etc up to 45 days prior.

And yes if using an agent up to 3 months prior.

I have heard of folks renewing earlier than that there, for example by showing a flight booking that they were leaving the country prior to renewal date.

That is correct.

Immigration can be flexible.

A reason (good story) with a flight ticket might do the trick.

That normally would only give a couple of extra weeks early.

Yes i did mine last month,so easy in and out within 15 minutes, total cost 1900 baht. Why do people like to throw away 10,000 baht? I always do my renewal at Pattaya 30 days before.

Yes, Henry, the low season things more often than not goes smoothly.

Anyway, It's not 10000 baht, just a few thousand baht plus 1900 baht for extension

I spend my money on things that make my life easier and more enjoyable.

Jomtien immigration is hot and cold, at times you could be sat or stood there for hours.

Being amongst some of those weirdo foreigners is not my ideal environment.

I much prefer my time from work, to be with my family and friends.

Then you can use an agent in Pattaya.  The problem now from my current experience it took 5 weeks.  Apparently the agents and banks there are under more scrutiny now.  5 weeks without a passport seems way too long.  What if you had an emergency on a weekend or a holiday and had to travel immediately?   I won't use an agent again.

Indeed, that is exactly what I did earlier this year.

However, it is not ideal - especially with the hardening climate that you describe. I will need a better solution which means changing from my current extension expiry date (which falls at a time when I am traveling in Europe). I will get a new Non-Imm O visa after my travels in 2026 and then apply for a 12 month extension in, say, September which will avoid the necessity of having to apply so early.

So you don't have to have 800,000 baht tied up in a Thai bank for life, which you could have invested abroad, earning you much more than the 8,000 baht the agent will charge you.

oh yes these mythical people where investments only go up. Personally i prefer keeping 800k+ in case of medical emergency. BTW agents now charge circ 15k for financials not 8k

Or just lazy!

I have more money than energy these days and when an agent helps, there seems to be many things I need not have done. Forget coming back 90 days later to prove you have not spent  your money, or needing some extra bank statements.

As for those who simply have not got the 800k on deposit, it's a fraud of misrepresentation that I simply decided not to partake in many years ago.

No... it's the fact that we are guests in this country and are complying with the rules and regulations...if you cannot afford to meet the financial requirements you should not be here.

In case of a medical emergency, I have my health insurance. If you use the 800,000 for that, you'll lose your visa.

As for investments, if you know your way around the stock market, you can easily earn much more than the 15,000 you mentioned. In fact, at least 20 times more.

of course you don't , ideal time to use an agent

You could just leave and let the visa expire.  Then come back visa exempt and start the non-o process over again.  Which will also move your extension date to a later time that may work better with your schedule.
