Actress Marie Berenner, 33, has been sentenced to two months’ imprisonment and fined 4,000 baht for drink-driving. The sentence has been suspended for two years. Her driving licence has also been suspended for six months. Her male companion received a one-month sentence suspended for one year and a 10,000-baht fine.

The case follows an incident at a police checkpoint in Wang Thonglang District, where Berenner refused to undergo a breathalyser test while driving her luxury car. Her male companion reportedly obstructed police officers during the stop, with video footage later emerging of the incident. Both were summoned to Wang Thonglang Police Station and subsequently charged at the Phra Nakhon Nuea District Court.

According to court proceedings, both Berenner and her companion pleaded guilty. The court found Berenner guilty of resisting a lawful order and drink-driving. She was fined 1,000 baht for resisting police orders and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for drink-driving, with the sentence suspended for two years. She must report to authorities three times, complete 12 hours of community service and serve one year of probation.

Her male companion was convicted of insulting and obstructing officers in the performance of their duties. He was sentenced to one month in prison, with the term suspended for one year and fined 10,000 baht.

The incident drew media attention outside the court, where Berenner and her companion left the courthouse quickly. The court’s decision marks the conclusion of legal proceedings in this case.

  • 4,000 Baht for a Porsche owner is a slap on the wrist. Probably spent as much on dinner and booze. Thai justice.

  • 4k? My guess is it was somewhat more than this and the extra was given by way of a brown paper bags.

Sweet Jesus, that's a very quick turnaround.  The drink driving incident only occurred on Sunday (24 August).

Good to read that at least suspended imprisonment was given.

The six months driving license will hopefully keep her away from the wheel for the time.

To me it looks like the publicity helped.

Community service: serving in hospital where accident victims are treated? Or at the first responders?

I saw the video on Thai TV and she was rather intoxicated.  Her male companion was the classic defintion of interfering and resisting.  The Thai police repeatedly tried to ger her to blow into the PAS (Portable Alcohol Screening) but she kept waving them off.  This looked like a severe case of "do you know who I am"?  This means "I am above you peasant cops and I am not accountable".  Also, who drives a green porsche?

Add a visit to the morgue as well.

In Pattaya drunk drivers are treated quickly.

Caught drunk on Friday.

Spend weekend on Soi 9 or 30k bail.

Sentenced Monday morning at the courthouse on Thappraya Rd.

Kind of an express court, case by case from the queue.

Only if confessed and no appeal.

No! Not me.

Yes, amazingly quick, I wonder why? Could it be their was some 'incentive' to do this?

A night in jail would do wonders for people like this

And they wonder why people still do it.

Someone who gets drunk and struggles to recall where they parked it?  It's gonna be an easy find in the parking lot!

This is a example as to why driving death will continue to the end of time unless the whole system is taken away from these leaders all of them and put under leadership of outsiders but this is just a dream!

Unless they do it quickly or the police confiscate the passports any longer and they can be out of the coutnry.

Looks like they got off easy.  Money #1 in this country.

Norway fine you 1month salary, 30 days jail and loose licence 2 years, then have to take new test (with its costs).

See the difference ? 😉

Throw the sweetheart in the slammer and cream 40,000 Baht or the tenfold of this amount off her money.

This Lalala justice has to stop!

Nope it was all in the original article, that they were released on bail that night, but had to appear in court on Monday.

Same rules for everyone, including the cynics on AN

Special People

"Don't you know who I am???  Away with you peasants.  Fine the common people and the hoi-polloi. I'm not stopping and you can't make me!  Ha ha ha!"

A few days later.
<wai wai wai>  So sorry.  I never do again <wai wai wai> Have leniency.  <wai bow wai bow>

That night.
"HA! Showed them. Suspended sentences.  Like putty in my hands.  Wanna get drunk?"

Why suspend the jail sentence?! Especially for the guy who behaved like a pig?! Pathetic!

Sounds like you are not used to visit the same hi-so places as Porsche-owners...😉 – 4,000 baht would hardly be the price for dinner for one, not to mention the booze later in the evening – however, it also seems like Marie Berenner's male companion's important connections might have had some effect after all with suspended sentences...:whistling:

Well, you can't blame people for being cynical if they have lived in Thailand for any length of time?:whistling:

I know Thai's who have been caught and fined and it doesn't stop them from doing it again the next evening.  They just consider themselves unlucky for being caught or being unable to bribe the Cops and don't see anything wrong with actually offending !

The old "popular kid gets a break" routine! Anyone else, the fine and time would be much bigger!
