They most likely store water in tanks which has a layer of silt at the bottom, may or may not clean those out

Check your toilet cistern see if you have a layer

The last news was this old lady finding her husband back with only a yellow shirt and bones left, went missing in the well.

So she showered, cooked and cleaned with that same water too…

Nothing funny about it at all, You have stupidly put yourself at risk of contracting all sorts of horrible diseases, Not all of which will kill you of course but many could be life changing to the degree that you will wish they had.   How does life after kidney failure appeal to you?  strapped to a dialysis machine 4 hours a time, 3 times a week, forever ? its probably about 2000bt a time too these days

You need to monitor yourself closely for the next 6 months  looking for any abnormal symptoms and stay close to a hospital.  on the other hand you may be OK. only time will tell,  oh the suspense must be awful

All because you were too lazy to nip to the shop and buy a bottle

Yes I woke up about 730am this morning, I just needed a coffee , Couldn't be bothered walking to the 711

Does it make any difference how long we boil it for?

Considering how much microplastics, pesticides, etc., we're eating these days, I frequently take my risk with tab water; but only boiled, of course...

Have you considered "Industrial Disease"?

It's a little late for the OP, but I'd suggest checking the water tank on the roof for dead bodies before trusting the tap water.  It wasn't that long ago they found a dead Burmese guy who had been marinating there for several days.

Or, just buy bottled water.

aren't most all metals heavy.?

Haven't you heard, papa al? They build aeroplanes out of aluminium metal for a reason.

The term "heavy metal" is more commonly used to describe a metallic element which are toxic to organisms even at low dose levels.

Nonsense, that was a septic tank, not a well.

I've seen the results of routine water testing before and after filtration for a Bangkok bottling plant.  The water quality before filtration meets most drinking water stansards most of the time, but it can be variable.  At times of heavy rainfall the dissolved solids is high, and E.coli can be an issue, but it is usually safe to drink.

Two issues were surprisingly high levels of hormones, possibly due to extensive use of contraceptive pills by Bangkok girls, or perhaps chicken farms upstream of Bangkok, and high microplastic levels, which may, or may not, be a risk depending on what research papers you read.

But I didn't see anything in the test results that would stop me using tap water for brushing teeth or making hot tea/coffee.

The same water is also used to make ice, so we drink it every time we buy cha yen or iced coffee, or if you're a total savage, when you put ice in beer.

Tons died and went missing in wells and if you seen their “septic tank” setup together with the water reservoirs, i’d not excuse that to be safer.

Regardless foreigners drinking this to save 1 baht on clean water are just idiots.

I checked the ugly bowl. Yup, there was a layer after I dumped.   Huh? What?🙃🙃

Try using a water filter in your shower and see how fast they are done hehe. Gives you a good idea.

I am sure most get scared to even shower if they got lab results. Most skin issues are a result of it too.

The woman you referred to did not find her husband's remains in a well, the rest of your comment was irrelevant.

Why on Earth did you drink the tap water?  I have lived in south-east Asia for 23+ years and have never even considered drinking the tap water water in Thailand, Laos or Myanmar.  (I'm a scientist, so I understand the risks that could exist...).

Anyway, if you boiled the water, I hope you can sleep at night after boiling all those cute bacteria to death.....

Now all you need to concern yourself with are the various heavy metals and other elements/compounds etc (think Arsenic, Mercury etc) that aren't neutralised/removed by boiling the water!

If you think about that UK tap water has a 100 EPI score, US have 89.3 EPI score, Sweden 97.4 and finland 100.

Then Thailand has 44.6 EPI score.

Yep Louie! There you have the grim facts.

Your joking aren't you ???

Not really.

There have been several reports over the years of dead bodies found in the water tanks/towers.  So, what could people possibly be drinking prior to the body being found?

That doesn't man that Thailand's tap water is "dirty" which was the context of my response, that EPI summary is a comparison and does not report that Thailand's tap water is unsafe or unsanitary.

Now regarding "grim facts", here's one for you to look at, Thailand's score was 55.8, not 44.6 as you falsely claimed.

And don't sneeringly change my forum name in comments, I am not "Louie".

This morning I woke up in my Airbnb small apartment and going out I never had enough water for my coffee ..I need my coffee

So I took the water from the kitchen tap and booked it in the jug

I had my coffee .

Now I'm thinking I shouldn't leave the Condo in case I get sick.

Has anyone got any stomach disease from drinking the water here ?

I only had one cup of hot coffee

I'm feeling a little sick come to think of it , I think the water may have parasites in it , I think they are now swimming around in my belly

Has anyone else drank the tap water ,I did boil it ,is there any scientists on here who can answer please !!

Looks like I may have to head to the medical centre for  a blood test

What symptoms could I have ?

That's good to hear, I'll let admin know, so they can ban this guy.

There's no way we can have rational, good sense comments on this forum.

How do you know that it was from using tap water?

Educated guess.

After using bottled water the illness stopped.

Yes, then as scuba says, there's a lot of cr@p in the tanks.

I've since bought a unit at the same condo block we previously rented.

Cleaning out the water filter was one of the jobs I've done since moving in, and it was riddled with silt

Ask how many Thais who are drinking water from the tap.

Exactly zero up here.

Maybe I should take pictures of the water filters before cleaning or exchanging.

The thread is in the Pattaya section. Please look at the restaurants/kitchens.

They all use water from the big 5 gallon bottles (as here).

Show me a restaurant / bar / kitchen that uses tap water. Every morning I see the water supply being delivered.

Apparently the water from the treatment plants is good quality.......the degradation/contamination occurs during its journey through the pipework to your tap.

I bought a water tester and compared the tap water to that coming out of our quite expensive pure filter system. The tap water was slightly better rated!

What did this have to do with kitchen/restaurant/bar? I was talking about regular Thai people. You know private individuals. Not business entities that can be sued if something goes wrong.

And where do regular Thai people eat?

What water do they use for cooking?

Regular Thai people don't drink tap water!

Why do you think every major shop has tons of water in plastic bottles?

You have a strange logic and obviously not much to do with ordinary Thai people.

No false claims here, but maybe your source in more correct than mine, right? Is that because you believe you have the better facts, or just because you feel superior? 😂

Water Quality by Country 2025 https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/water-quality-by-country

Regarding the EPI, it stands for:

The EPI measures water quality in terms of "age-standardized disability-adjusted life-years lost per 100 000 persons“ (DALY rate) due to exposure to unsafe drinking water” (EPI).

Did you by any chance see the bolded unsafe word in the information above. 😂

But, I will respect your wish about your forum name, Mr. Liverpool.

Most of the Thai population, are actually farmers. A little bit more than 59% actually. With that kind of work, you do not eat out in kitchens and restaurants very often. They cook their food out in their farms. I do not say that a major part of the population drink tap water. What I am saying is that there are many who does. So, I don´t think there is much wrong with my logic, but you are probably a city boy who don´t see much of the real Thai life.
