Indian Tourist Loses Gold Necklace in Beach Scam

Featured Replies

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an insurance scam and unsurprisingly by Indian nationals. I recall in the 80s travellers cheques were the go to scam when travelling through India. About 30 cents in the dollar was the going rate and they’d even take you to the nearest police station to report the “theft””.

Insurance companies are a wake-up to these kind of scams. You'd have to submit all kinds of evidence that you actually owned such a chain before any chance of a payout.

The true collective noun is a 'gobble of ladyboys'

or a Gam.

Well, how glad am I to read the most reliable headline of Pattaya.

For the 264th time this year, as it is Day 246 in the calendar of 2025, we are all delighted to learn, that the third genders, the ladies of second gender or whatever you want to call these fruitcakes tawts, have been at it again and relieved yet another son of Southasian decent of his heavy gold burden.

What a silly thing, if there would be basic law enforcement, then the authorities would wipe out the nightly activities once and for all. Book those culprits into the slammer and throw the keys far, far away. Put their names and photos all over the media, be TV, printed press and social media. The readers will love yet another mini disaster and it would keep those face-saving sick minds at bay and try to get normal jobs with normal salaries.

We're all aware that there are much more incidents this year than just the 264th happening but it also takes either blunt lying or straight stubititdy for those visitors from the land of the Indus and the Ganges to undertake nightly strolls with the full buntings of golden Christmas decorations 😎

How many times do we hear that, nothing will change.

A 24-year-old Indian tourist, identified as Mr. RA, lost a gold necklace valued over 100,000 baht in a theft incident on Pattaya Beach in Chonburi province in the early hours of 20 September 2025. The loss occurred after a group of ladyboys approached him and his friend, offering sexual services, which he declined. The suspects reportedly separated from the scene before the victim realised his necklace had been taken.

The incident was reported at 02:35 to Pol Lt. Col. Manasak Pholyiam, deputy investigation officer at Pattaya City Police Station. Upon receiving the report, officers under the command of Pol. Col. Anek Sathongyu, chief of Pattaya City Police, quickly deployed an investigative team to the beach.

Mr. RA told police that while walking along the beach with a friend, a group of ladyboys approached him, attempting to embrace and touch him in order to solicit sexual services. He resisted and managed to break free, but after the group dispersed, he discovered that his gold necklace, weighing approximately 30 grams, had been removed without his knowledge. The suspects had fled the scene before he could identify them.

Police have begun a detailed investigation, taking statements from the victim and coordinating with the Pattaya City Police’s detective unit to review CCTV footage from the area. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators to bring them to justice.

Looking ahead, investigators plan to intensify patrols and surveillance along the beach area while examining further security footage, aiming to prevent similar incidents and recover the stolen property.

Most of us who live here long term know that it's no longer wise to wear gold in public. Doing so is asking for trouble with very little real benefit

Ok. The tale of "The Indian, the gold necklace and the ladyboy"  is now part of folk culture here. Happens as often as a frenchman steps into a boulangerie to buy a baguette.

The golden rule of thumb when in Pattaya, do not allow any ladyboy to get within 3 meters of yourself, it's just asking for trouble.

Is this one of those cases of curiosity killed the cat?

Key takeaway Indian gets necklace removed again and again, due to dumb ding Dong logic, it's not going to happen to me

another group of Indians trying to scam their travel insurance company, blaming it on ladyboys. Most likely never had a gold necklace to start with.

Good plan, but....

What is it with these Indians and their gold! Cant they read? Do they never listen or watch the news? Anyone walking around flashing their "wealth" is a magnet to thieves! Not only in Thailand, but everywhere!!!

Indian tourists and gold chains  dont go well together in Pattaya

Must be a lot of wealthy Indians around losing chains seems

to be a regular thing 🤔

Many years ago I was in Phnom Penh on a visa-run and a friendly tuk tuk driver advised that it was probably best not to be (visibly) )wearing a 2 Baht gold chain. Sold it quite soon after.

A template could be used for such reports.

Just fill in date/time, names and value....

These Indians must be so popular with the beach kathoeys.

Hard to find such naive visitors.

Total insanity to wear gold in Pattaya..usual suspects , so why this keeps happening?

Boo hoo.   Just a single 'Boo hoo', I'm aftraid.  I think we can all agree that this story, however important and tragic, does not reach the level to warrant a double 'Boo hoo, oh boo hoo hoo'.

Isn't this the 3rd time this month, I seem sn Indian rat.

Personally, I would never allow a ladyboy to get close enough to put his hands on me. As soon they begin to approach me, I quickly skirt them and am telling them to go away. To allow them within touching distance is an invitation to get robbed.

I find a straight left, followed by a right hook, concluded with a swift kick in nuts usually deters them. 🤣😂🤣

Could there be an agreement to split the proceeds in such cases? Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to walk along the coconut bar with 100k gold around your neck.

It's an insurance job. End of story.

Amazing how these guys now seem to possess a clear picture of supposed gold chain .

Lots of these Mr. Bling types simply don't get it here... going walkabout with major bling is just asking for it, and no, it doesn't impress anyone... just makes you a huge target for the perps and insane ladyboys.

Why oh why do so many tourists go on holiday with expensive watches, gold chains etc. on show? An open invitation to be robbed whichever country they might be in.
