There's an unusual item of furniture I want to buy.

Looking online and other than a few items on Lazada that are not Laz Mall, only Homepro has it on their website. It has the full Homepro item code, price, description, everything.

There's a main branch near me so I go there to buy or order it.

I look around, none out, so I go to the customer service counter and show them the Homepro website, with the Item and the Homepro item code etc, to see if they have it in stock, and if not to order it.

Don't have.

Okay, can you order it please?

No.

Umm.

It's Homepro online. Order it from the website khaa.

I'm not a member, I haven't registered online.

Register and buy online khaa.

This is Homepro, right?

Khaa.

You work for Homepro, right?

Khaa.

You're telling me that this main Homepro store cannot order a Homepro item from the Homepro online webpage??

Khaa.

Fantastic. Thank you very much.

Surprised you didn't get the default "mai mee" 😁

I just went through this last week. I needed a cheap video card quick fast and in a hurry. I went to a shop at a local mall we would all recognize, a McDonald's of computer parts. Their layout is the same for most places - laptops locked down out front for everyone to paw, ram, drives, video cards etc. behind the counter. I walked up to the cashier and told her I wanted a cheap video card. Of COURSE she replied "mai mee" when there was a WALL of video cards immediately behind her. When I pointed to them, she got a sheepish grin on her face and we got me a cheap video card.

As well, I wanted to spoil myself with a high end Kawai MP11SE piano. It's the finest you can get before you go to a full sized spinet or actual piano. They use real wood for the keys and the action is the best by all accounts. Trying to find an outlet that would sell me one took days, and I actually had to contact Kawai's central office and ask them to get someone off their dead a$$ to sell me this keyboard. Part of the charms and challenges we have to navigate living here.

What is this post even about? Online stores are not the same as a psychical store, neither do they have to give you that service for a specific item. Maybe you confused to think you are special.. Aside from being simply lazy to order it online to begin with, would been 5 minutes to do.

Many specific items also are online only as they not buy them in large quantities, only for online buyers. Be happy they have what you want. They could also close their entire online shop and you never had the chance.

It's not a Thai thing, if that's the point of your post.

B&Q in UK are exactly the same.

I had similar experience. Go online to Homepro or Ikea's website, register, and switch store locations until you find a store that has it. Then, go to the store yourself and buy it or order delivery from that store. Crazy. Compare that to the U.S. where I would walk into any clothing chain store, and if they didn't have what I want, they do a search in their system, and say it will be delivered to this store tomorrow.

Currys the same from my experience.  Set up an online account and had my purchase delivered a day or two later.

Not sure what the OP's point is.

It's just another gratuitous Thai-bash.

Yup...  I encountered exactly the same thing in the UK....

I wanted to order a pair of trainers for my Son, but was not sure of his size, we were 'popping into the city anyway'...

I'd seen the trainers on the 'online version' of the same store...

So... we went to the main store - No stock, can order online only (walked out).

Went to another store...   Tried on the items, was ready to make payment. The till (point of sale) was down and we couldn't make payment.

No problem, I thought. I'll go to their online shop, order them for 'in-store-collection'...  Surely problem solved.

I found them online, offered the solution there and then for in-store-collection.

No can do. I highlighted that I'd solved their payment system and I could 'select' the in-store-collection within the hour (if paying an £8 premium) - but there was no need to do that, as I had them in my hand already - just pay the cost of the item.

No can do !!!.....   I asked them why it costs £8 to 'deliver me something' I was already holding in my hand !!!!...  just because their 'till systems' were down....

Realising my time was being wasted - Computer says no !!... I walked away with a shake of the head (purchased elsewhere online).

So... These issues are certainly not Thailand problems - they are general problems where the lowest common denominator (i.e. the cheapest management) attempts to set up efficient systems while completely ignoring the needs of the customer...   the customer no longer comes first.... never did, profit always has, but the margins have been trimmed significantly such that common sense has been kneecapped we can only make purchases based on the convenience of the store....

Over the years, in different chain stores here, when something I need is not in stock, the staff have been happy to do a store search to see which branch has it. When I confirm that I want it, they invariably offer to deliver it for free so I don't have to inconvenience myself returning to the store to collect it.

I get this problem all the time at Amazon stores. I find something I like on the website, then head to the local outlet but they never have anything I want; they always just try and pass me off with a coffee.

When face with an issue that is not being satisfied through the salesperson I always escalate it up to the supervisor or management, and most of the time I get some sort of satisfaction.

Being told cannot cannot, or no have, no have just gets very boring.

Sometimes they drive me crazy, too.  You should certainly be able to order anything you have seen online in the store--I think you encountered a lazy clerk.  We have been able to do it but I think it helps to have a persuasive slightly hiso Thai spouse doing the talking.  And, it also doen't hurt that we're good customers who have bought a lot with our renovations.   As another poster has also mentioned, they should also be able to locate items not in stock at one branch and have them sent to your local branch or delivered to your home.

My particular pet peeve is they will sometimes have items on display and when you find a clerk to buy the item you're told that they haven't had that item for years.   Hmm.   Ok, if you don't have it anymore, why not take down the item on display and replace it with something you do sell?

Pathetic and pointless. Stop moaning and register online.

All is normal in Homepro then !    Stop wasting Lazy Staff's time when they need as much time as possible to hide around the store playing with their Phone's.   Overstaffed by about at least 50% and the majority as Dumb as Bricks and too lazy to Fart !

It is also referred to as hidden unemployment.

They don't need to fart. You are blowing enough hot hair for the entire staff.

Long may bad service last for you. You truly deserve it.

I've had the same experience with Central Department stores.  Things you that you've seen online are not available at the stores.  Oh, well...

I walked into BananaIT at Emquartier the other day looking for something I know they sell.  I asked one of the sales assistants (in English, I don't speak Thai).  He searched the stores inventory (on his phone) and found the model I wanted, but in the wrong colour.  I asked if they had the other colour and he said no, so I asked him if he could check their other stores.  He said sure and walked over to an actual PC to search.  He then told me they product I wanted was available in the next building at a different brand store (but part of the BananaIT group).  Took me less than 3 mins to walk to the other store and within 5 mins I had what I wanted.
