Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing neck bone deterioration, known as cervical spondylosis, while serving a sentence at Klongprem Central Prison in Bangkok. The Department of Corrections reported that Thaksin is scheduled for a medical examination on Monday after no specialist was available when he sought treatment recently. Authorities assure that he remains in stable condition, although concerns persist regarding his overall health.

Thaksin, 76, who was sent to prison by the Supreme Court on September 9, is to serve a one-year sentence for three separate cases. Previously, he evaded serving time by citing illness and had been at Police General Hospital from August 2023. He was subsequently moved to Klongprem Central Prison after being transferred from Bangkok Remand Prison.

Supporters of Thaksin gathered outside the prison, demonstrating their moral support as they remain hopeful for his wellbeing. According to deputy department spokeswoman Kanokwan Jiewchueaphan, Thaksin is also experiencing fatigue and body aches typical of elderly individuals, but his condition is stable. He will undergo a routine health evaluation at the prison.

Thaksin's prison term follows multiple legal battles and significant political influence in Thailand. His return to the country and health considerations have drawn substantial public and media attention. Experts are monitoring the situation closely to assess the impact on his legal proceedings and potential implications for his early parole.

Looking ahead, Thaksin's health condition will continue to be monitored, with medical assessments scheduled to determine the necessary course of action. His supporters remain vigilant, and the political landscape keenly watches any developments.

Key Takeaways

  • Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing cervical spondylosis in prison.
  • He will undergo a medical evaluation to assess his condition.
  • Supporters have shown continued support outside the prison.

I'm starting to get the feeling that his biggest health problem is that he's allergic to prison.

Last I heard, he was still in the prison's hospital ward or some other special section for elderly folks....

Haven't seen if they have him sleeping on the concrete floors on thin mats like the rest of the inmates there..... Maybe that would provide him the firm back and neck support that he clearly needs!   🙂

AKA hypochondriasis + old age, nothing to worry about, but he see this as a way out of the prison. Wimp!

He declined treatment for the cervical condition during his stay in luxury suite at Police General. Maybe he kept this condition in reserve for a Get Out Of Jail pass later if needed.

He did the crime. All he needs to do now is. Do the time.

Being in prison seems to bring on his health problems. Maybe he thinks that having "health problems" will facilitate his early release?

We all have health issues. Let the man serve his sentence.

I wish him all the best and a long life 🙏

So an age related condition that will not simply go away if he is released from prison, man up buttercup you got yourself in this mess, serve your time and enjoy retirement

Sounds rather sensible to me, why suffer when you can proactively avoid it.

Sure, he can be released to house arrest in near future, according to Thai law. He's over 75.

And again from the beginning: 3, 2, 1 wheelchair and neck brace! Worked well last time...:coffee1:

So he got sent back to prison for staying in the hospital ward.  Now he is back in it again.  After his next release will they send him back to prison again for the same reason.  Ad Infinitum.

We can but hope

Total BS he didn’t have any when he jumped into his private jet to visit Dubai

"Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing neck bone deterioration, known as cervical spondylosis," rather quick onset.... Let's see it verified by international specialists, I don't trust the Thai doctors, we know they can be bought.

Nah, allergic to the truth and justice, the usual treatment is high doses of corruption/payments.

No, he was sent back to prison because he was staying at the Police General Hospital on Th. Rama I, not the hospital ward of the prison. Not quite the same thing mate.

I find it extremely offensive that no media actually calls him out, and exposes the ongoing BS, just shows how gutless the Thai media is.
